We still haven't gotten our crib mattress. With all kinds out there these days, non-toxic, no fumes, etc., it's a little overwhelming.. What is everyone using?
I hope I don't get judged but we splurged and got a two sided organic mattress. I read somewhere that babies sleep so much that it makes sense to splurge and be careful about the product we have them on. But I may be a delusional FTM!
I was also overwhelmed by mattresses. I talked to the sales women and she told me that spring mattresses last longer than foam because of the way kids jump and walk all over it. I don't know if it is really true but she sold me on it.
This is the one we have for DS and we bought another for DD. It's held up to two years and counting of an active little boy sleeping, bouncing, and jumping on it. It's worth the investment, I believe.
Before dd1 we were given a really nice organic crib mattress, but the innersprings just made it so heavy to change the sheet that we bought a Moonlight Slumber Little dreamer deluxe and it has been a wonderful mattress for us. This will be our 3rd baby to sleep on it
Bit more expensive, but since its two sided and Im a sucker for more natural things, we figured it was worth the money. We sleep on an expensive mattress, so why shouldnt our baby be given the same amount of consideration?
If there are any Canadian mums looking for a super crunchy inexpensive Canadian made mattress, I can't recommend this one enough (and it's dual sided also):

This is the mattress we got and my basic thought process too! Maybe unnecessary but made this FTM feel better.

I did a lot of research and chose the Safety 1st Precious Angel Baby and Toddler Mattress. We didn't choose it for the price at all, but it happens to be very reasonable (less than $100). I wanted foam because I read that spring mattresses are really heavy and make changing crib sheets difficult. It was also important to me for it to be Greenguard Gold certified (super low or no toxic emissions). The mattress also comes with a waterproof bamboo zip-off cover, but we'll also be using an all-natural, organic mattress pad.

I registered for them but we ended up getting them ourselves so that we'd have the nursery ready in case the twins come early!
