I voted Laila because it is closest to the correct and original spelling of "Leila". I personally would not pronounce it Leelah or Lilah because the "a" comes before the "i", which accentuates the "a". Therefore, Laila pronounced phonetically would be correct. I am also not a fan of the big trend of replacing i's in names with y's, and vice versa.
I voted Layla, but that's just because I liked that spelling better lol but I actually do like both of them, and I don't think anyone would be confused by either spelling when it comes to pronunciation =]
I voted Layla. My name is Kayla, so Layla just makes the most sense to me. I also have a friend with the same name who spells it Caila. Both are pretty!
Me and my fiance are naming our daughter Layla as well, this was our biggest debate over the past couple of months. Ultimately we decided to go with Layla to avoid any issues with people mispronouncing the name.
I get its a famous song title and a common spelling but when I see lay-la I think mum heard a name somewhere and didn't know how to spell it so she spelled it phonetically, which in my book is akin to making it up.
But because it's a common spelling I won't hold it against you ; )
This was one of my top names and SO liked it too, but he said that the only way he would want to spell it would be "Leila" but I would want "Laila" he said we could compromise with Layla, but I have a thing with the letter "Y", because growing up people would use it to lazily spell my name and something in my subconscious says that my baby cannot have a "y" in her name. So we found other names. hahaha
If you're pronouncing it like "Li-lah", then either spelling throws it off into "Lay-la" :S..... It's not my place, it's your name but I might suggest Lylah or Lyla. I might be biased since it is part of my daughter's name :$
I love the name Laila! I would have so named my baby girl that- Laila Rose to be exact. But it has meaning with my past and I am not choosing it for several reasons. will she have a middle name? Or what is the last name? depending on the i's and y's in the rest of her name that's what I would have gone with. I'm weird lol.
Thanks for all your input ladies! I hadn't even considered Leila gah decisions
We ran into the same problem when we decided to name our daughter Michaela. There are so many ways to spell it! I like Leila, if you're considering it.
Re: How would you spell Laila? Thank you.
Edited for spelling.
Edited because words are hard.
I am also not a fan of the big trend of replacing i's in names with y's, and vice versa.
I voted for Laila since I like the look of that one!
*clarity
But because it's a common spelling I won't hold it against you ; )
