Update

Hi ladies. Just writing to let you know I'm dropping out of the board. My HCG only went up from 160 on Friday to 258 today, and I have an ultrasound in 2 days to rule out an ectopic. In any case it is not a viable pregnancy. We are very sad but moving forward. I sincerely wish all of you a healthy 8-9 months ahead!

Thanks ladies. Much appreciated. We'll take some time off then do the IVF dance again.
  • CCLow, unfortunately no rest on the horizon. In fact I had to come to work a few minutes after the nurse dropped the bomb on the phone. And will have to do the same the rest of the week. I don't know how I'll manage...
  • Sending hugs and thoughts and prayers :(

  • So, I had aun ultrasound today and my official diagnosis is "pregnancy of unknown location"…. The urban legend is that the weirdest medical conditions happen to physicians, and I am starting to believe it… In summary, HCG levels continue rising very slowly (doubling time of ~115 hours), but progesterone is high (76) and they cannot find the embryonic sac anywhere. The HCG levels are still below 1000 and this may be why. The most likely diagnosis is ectopic pregnancy but they cannot confirm it yet so I go back for serial ultrasounds and blood work until the location declares itself.
    My luck...
  • So sorry to hear that. Sucks that it has to keep dragging on. Hoping they can get it resolved soon!

  • I know how frustrating that can be- the same thing happened to me. Just lots of- "your pregnancy isn't viable, but we can't find it". I found the unknown to be the worst part. If I was going to miscarry, I just wanted to.....miscarry. I hope they can treat you appropriately!
  • So sorry to hear this.

  • Sarahufl, this is where I stand right now. I know it isn't viable but there is no resolution in sight... And to make things more confusing my progesterone levels are high, usually predictive of viability (which makes no sense). Such a difficult position to be in... I'm trying to clear my mind by binge watching Suits today. :)

Yeah, the wait is kind of torture. It was over a week for me, then I ended up in surgery. I kept wanting to scream- "YOU ARE OB'S, JUST FIND MY FREAKING PREGNANCY!"
  • Where was yours, Sarah?

In my left tube, which had to be removed. It was rather traumatic and happened on my birthday, after I already had the Methotrexate shot to "prevent" surgery (HAHAHAHA). On the upside, I got pregnant again as soon as we were cleared to try and this baby is due on my birthday, exactly one year after the surgery.
  • Oh so the methotrexate didn't work? Wow. I'm likely going to receive MTX if levels keep going up and they still cannot find the embryo.
I'm glad your story had a happy ending. Wishing you a healthy, uneventful pregnancy with a super birthday present!
  • Yeah, I had the MTX on a Friday- they gave it to me because they couldn't diagnose the ectopic so it was supposed to just take care of whatever it was. I had to leave work early that Monday with terrible cramps and ended up in the ER around 2am vomiting and not being able to stand up straight. They never did find the pregnancy on a sonogram, just the internal bleeding from it. Surgery went fine, but I was a total mess.

We had to wait 3 months try again after the MTX shot and were successful right away. Apparently my left tube was just for decoration :)

Anyway, sorry you find yourself in this position, I know the week it took them to find things was really crappy for me, so I know how you must feel. In a way, I wished I had just miscarried the "normal" way and not have to go through all that, but I am happy to know my body worked through it. PM me if you have any questions, I will be thinking of you.

Actually, my OB said the MTX may have actually been working, it often causes the embryo to expand slightly before shrinking, so it could have worked but I had the surgery before. Who knows? I still have so many questions....

  • I'm thinking of you. I had basically the same situation this past March. My first pregnancy was diagnosed ectopic, 2nd preg was my beautiful dd, 3rd was low low HCG levels that started off doubling but then stalled out at after reaching 260 started dropping on their own.( unknown location) My office doesn't test progesterone. I opted to get the mtx when my level showed signs of going down on it own. I knew it wasn't viable. I bleed 3 days after the shot and my level was at 0 within a week. They could only presume ectopic bc of my history. But I didn't want to take any risks of a ruptured tube so I am happy I went through with the mtx shot when I did. I started taking extra folic right after and then had an hsg test that showed left tube completely blocked. Same cycle here I am with my 4th pregnancy and beautiful healthy doubling HCG numbers. I'm still so nervous but hoping for the best. It's so hard and I understand where your at now, but you can still have a happy ending. T&P your way dear.
  • I am glad your story also had a good resolution Jaimbeb.
This is the most stressful situation I've ever been in...
Unfortunately our chances of conceiving naturally are slim (both my husband and I have abnormal fertility), so once we can finally turn the page from this stressful event we will have to resort to IVF again... We got so close... :(
