In an absolute perfect world...

If you could choose your month to deliver a happy and healthy babe, which one would you choose?

My ideal would be to deliver in June, enjoy my summer break off (I'm a teacher) and head back to work when school starts back up. The only thing holding me up on that being a possible plan is having to finish up school and knowing I have to present my project that month.

^^that would be the absolute ideal - minus the school part. Thankful to almost be done with my masters!

Good luck with finishing school! I'd say May. I hate being pregnant in the heat. And I already have two winter babies.

@lotsofsunshine what month were your winter babies born? That sounds delightful!
  • I am busy all year round at work, but not knowing exactly how my insurance works, I'd prefer to get PG and deliver using a single deductible, if that makes sense. We're very thrifty. :)

This is a good point! I'll go with October, which fits the bill. Fall is my slow season at work, it moves most of the third trimester out of the hottest months in New England, and avoids the holidays (though I'm a December baby and it doesn't bother me). I also think it's more fun for kids to have birthdays during the school year vs. summer.
  • @hookemnelson - I'm a teacher too! If I could choose any month I'd always thought I'd like to have a March baby.
  • @HookEmNelson, they are November and December. Very nice!

    @LavenderBrown1018 Yay for another teacher!

Each month of the year seems to have their own pros! Come on Decemeber..I'm ready to start trying!

I also work at a school, but I am in administration, so my busiest season is the summer. My ideal time to give birth would be right before Thanksgiving break (one week off). Then, I could use my 3 weeks vacation to get paid for maternity to get me to our 2 week winter break. That would put me at 5 weeks paid maternity leave. At that point, I would probably return to work or take one more additional week off, unpaid. I am the Executive Director and the thought of being out much longer is worrisome for me though.

In Canada we get a year off for mat leave - i would love to spend the end of my may leave enjoying the summer and then go back to work in the fall.
DS was born in August and the summer heat didn't bother me much at all when I was pregnant. Not more than it usually does anyways.

I work at a college. I would love to be due in June or July. i want to take take 4 months for maternity leave and that way I'm not gone during an entire semester.
  • I would say spring or Summer. June sounds good to me too. I have 2 winter babies (Nov. and Dec.) and I felt like I couldn't leave the house with them with the flu and colds going around. I became a hermit. Not to mention all the holidays that get in the way.

  • I'd love to have an April baby. Not quite the hottest months for the last leg of pregnancy. I haven't had to carry a 9 month belly in the summer heat, but from what I've heard, it is unpleasant. :)

Perfect world - early October.  The last three months of the year are my favorite and I'd be delighted if maternity leave fell within that time frame.  Plus the Mr. doesn't work in the winter due to weather so it'd be nice to have him at home when I'd go back to work.

This is exactly my thinking! LOL. Hoping to avoid the Texas heat as much as possible.

In a perfect world, our baby would be born in March/April. So then, the worst of the heat would be at the beginning of my pregnancy and not while I'm huge. It's what we are trying for, but we'll see...

  • My family has most birthdays around holidays and it can get overwhelming when its different side of the family, different age groups, etc. So I would like to avoid that.

I'd say March-April timeframe. My birthday usually falls on or near Mothers Day, or else I'd include May in there too :)

I also would like to avoid a holiday baby. I'm first week of January and even that is too close. I always get lost in the aftermath of the Christmas/New Years craziness. We have a lot of Christmas time babies in our family also. I would like to try to avoid my kid having to deal with being that baby.

  • June or July would be great.  I'd love to take off the summer.  They are definitely the best months here and it'd be nice to be able to take walks outside with a newborn instead of being stuck in the house.
  • April or May would be my preference. I don't want to be big and PG in the heat of summer!

    My preference is November.

Wouldn't be super prego during the hot months and would get to enjoy the following summer (mat leave is a year here). We do a lot of camping, boating, etc. and the baby would be old enough to enjoy all of that.

Plus, FI gets a couple weeks off at Christmas time, so that's an added bonus.
  • @gilligan34 ...Canadian teacher too! I always thought I would go summer; but we're starting to TTC around April, so if it happens quickly, then that'll be earlier in the year. I guess we're very lucky with our year off, but I will likely end up coming back in the middle of or end of the school year depending on how quickly we conceive
  • I think I would pick April or May. Probably April because we have a lot of family birthdays already in May. The weather here is breaking, it would be months before I had to bundle the baby up to take him/her outside, and it's far enough from the holidays but still during the school year. I had my first son in June, and it was nice to have the whole summer off, but he always says he wishes his birthday was during the school year. That probably only matters to kids for a few years though.

I think a fall baby would be nice too, but I dread being 8-9 months pregnant in August. I hate the heat.

  • I'd probably choose whatever is 40 weeks from now. But I'd also be happy with January, so I wouldn't have to commute every day on public transportation in the winter, or in May/June, so we could go for summer walks/enjoy the summer not at work.

I did not even think about that. A coworker had her last child at the end of December, so she missed having to come to work in all of the winter weather last year. That would be nice, too. I guess every season/month has its pros and cons. And I'm also totally on board with whatever is 40 weeks from today, haha.

  • I'm on board with the 40 weeks from today! The timing would be perfect to enjoy the spring and summer months. I'm in a snow belt area so anything I can do to avoid the winter months...

This! I have a December baby and I felt like I couldn't leave the house. I felt very lonely and I didn't have many visitors because we had a lot of snow that winter. Ideally I would love baby #2 to be born in May or June so I can go on walks and leave the house, but obviously whatever happens I'll be happy.
