PP depression or just baby blues?

I delivered July 18. This week the hormones set in... Big time. Crying fits, feeling of doom that everything is closing in, overwhelmed wondering what have I done! We planned this and tried to get pregnant for so long and now that my little miracle is here all I can think about is how miserable I am! It's awful! Did anyone else go through this and if so how long did it take to pass? I weaned myself off of Prozac once I got pregnant and I want to do everything I can to not have to take it again.

Re: PP depression or just baby blues?

  • Yes I had the same thoughts it took me 3 years to get pregnant and after I had her it seemed everything went wrong she went to the NICU once she came home all she did was scream and I cried ALL the time!! It was just awful! It has gotten so much better im almost 6 weeks p.p and it was just within the last week I have been starting to enjoy her. I wasnt on any depression medication before pregnancy tho. It maybe helpful to talk to your doctor but I believe you can pull thru its tough being a mommy but rewarding. :) congrats hope you start enjoying your little miracle soon
  • Such a good thread, I'm 3 weeks out and feeling the same way :( and am not sure how I can tell the difference. I just feel very overwhelmed and anxious about everything.

  • I was so overwhelmed and emotional the first couple of weeks, now things have balanced out a bit. My advice is if you're questioning whether it's PPD or not that's enough to make a call to your doctor. If you do have PPD the sooner you get extra support the better!
  • I know the feeling. Im going through martial problems big time and the husband keeps ignoring me. Im alone and have 6 biological and his son so 7 and I literally do it all by myself and never get a thank you. I feel like crap about myself I use to be this hot mom everyone couldn't believe they were all my kids getting completef on a daily basis but I refuse to leave the house now. I miss my mom and dad.
  • I know what you mean - it's definitely a tough adjustment, though I would say I get the sense that you might be struggling more with PP depression than just baby blues. If it continues, I would definitely recommend contacting your doctor because you don't need to feel like this, when you've waited so long to celebrate your little ones arrival! :)
  • So happy I'm not alone! I'm almost 2 weeks pp and some days are worse than others. I cry atleast once a day, hoping it passes soon!

  • I feel that way sometimes when it gets hard (which is often) haha we tried for 5 years and even went to a fertility specialist and we were thinking about invitro or surrogate. But now that she is here...well, there's some days where I think, what have we gotten ourselves into!? What were we thinking? We are stressed and tired! And before the baby, when we were stressed and tired we took a mini vacation. Now all we can do is just try and get some sleep and coffee and hopefully that fixes it. Don't worry, I'm sure a lot of new parents get overwhelmed. Just breathe and always remember your partner. He/she is your partner in crime, the person that you tag in when you need a break, the one you communicate everything with. Take it day by day and don't forget to also have me time :)
  • I felt exactly like this for about two weeks after baby (I delivered July 9). I actually posted something similar hoping it wasn't just me. Give yourself a little time. Mine passed around two weeks. If yours gets worse or doesn't go away talk to your doctor! It's totally normal and there's no reason for you to suffer. Things that made me feel better (at least a little): b vitamins, getting outside, a beer, TALKING about it. I opened up up my mom, sister, and husband and this helped the most. Lots of love.
  • I thought it would never happen to me. Two weeks after birth, it hit....hard! But five weeks PP and feeling just fine now. It will pass. If not, please tell your doctor.
