It depends on how much you've produced and what methods you use to dry up. I did not produce much more than colostrum with my first and it only took a couple of days to dry up. I didn't use anything to help, just waited.
This time I produced more but still not a lot. I stopped a week ago and have not dried up completely. I leak just enough that I have to wear the pads in my bra.
Things that I have heard from friends that help are cold cabbage leaves in the bra, sage tea, peppermint, ice packs.

I had one really bad day where I was completely engorged but now it's easing up. A week should hopefully be it.
I use tight sports bras, avoid the water spray in the shower touching my chest as much as possible and for pain I slept with a bag of frozen peas on my chest for one night.
