Anyone's animals acting strange?

My EDD is tomorrow & my dog has not left my side for the last 48 hours. He's normally not cuddly at all but he's been napping with me all afternoon & being so sweet. Almost like he can sense the calm before the storm & that some big changes are coming! Anyone else experiencing the same thing with their pets?

Re: Anyone's animals acting strange?

  • My sister's dog stopped eating and got super cuddly starting 4 days before her labor started. Our pup has been acting out lately, but I think it is because I am not as active with him recently (ex. Putting his feet on the table and begging in the kitchen)

  • That's really sweet, I love animals because if they love you they love you and that's that. One of my dogs, who is just over a year old has been more cuddly than usual over the last couple of months. If I sit down she sits on my lap or leans against me. Im hoping it means she will be as protective of the baby when she arrives. If yours has only just started then I agree with you that it could be a sign of something to come. Keep us updated because that would be really fascinating and I would watch my dogs more closely.
  • my cat has been clingy towards me for the past couple of months too! he sleeps with me, follows me down/upstairs, he eats when I eat, he follows me to the bathroom and waits for me in the bathroom, he lays in the sink when I take a shower until I'm finished. I honestly love it :) I think he knows what's going on. I hope he doesn't get upset when baby is here and he won't get as much attention as usual!
  • My dog stopped eating for a few days now and just stares at me all the time. Finally got him to eat last night by putting peanut butter in his bowl and sitting next to him. He never leaves my side.
  • My cat has been acting super clingy lately. He's also been doing things he shouldn't be - like climbing over the tv stand & desk, laying in baby's crib, clawing at the sofa, etc.
he's been extra weird this past month & im just assuming it's because he can tell something is going to change soon but doesn't know what!
  • My dog and cat have been wicked clingy. DHs cat and our older dog couldnt care less. My cat is aweful though. She NEEDS to be standing on me at all times and she's over weight so its really painful. I remove her, she's back a minute later. Vicious cycle. I wish she would just lay on my belly and purr, makes the cramps feel better!
  • My cat has been snuggly the last couple months. Some days are worse (or better?) than others. Sometimes he'll follow me everywhere and others he just prefers to sleep in my bed all day lol.
  • One of my dogs has actually started hiding from me... I think she's a little freaked out.
  • Yes!! My dog has been very different! His trainer has mentioned that dogs are believed to be able to sense an increase in hormones and will often act very differently right before a momma goes into labor. This is my pup! Listening to his baby sis!
  • My cat has started meowing like crazy and following me around.. he always follows me but never used to be so chatty. He's a bit more needy. Who knows. He was really needy during the first trimester as well. I'm guessing he senses hormone changes.
  • Yes. One of my dogs has gotten increasingly more anxious whenever I leave the house. Both are very clingy and follow me everywhere, like nothing before. They are so sweet. I think they just want to know I am okay. They are going to be wonderfully protective of their little baby brother.
  • This has been my dog for all of her 13 years, so I can't tell a difference. Lol. She hasn't left my side since my parents brought her home as a puppy. :)
  • My sweet boy is very loving, but now he's extra! Which I don't mind. His bitchy sister is even more cuddly. Go figure

For the last 3 days, one of my dogs has all of a sudden started wanting to get on the couch (normally will not) and cuddle. Other dog was always cuddly, nothing's changed.

  • Last night my cats pissed everywhere, does that count? I'm really upset about it. About a month ago I put in Feliway plugins to keep the cats mellow for the upcoming changes and it seemed like they were fine and have been really happy and low key lately. Now I'm 38 weeks and cleaning up a bunch of piss and I had to throw away a rug. Super upset.
  • Mine has become more protective. She used to hide behind our sofa from thunder, fireworks, and the vacuum. Now, she stands in front of me and barks. I guess guard dog duty started early for her.
  • @mommyofX I LOVE your dogs' names :)

  • YES! Was literally just googling this before I saw this thread! My frenchi has as of today, chosen my lap over the heater and is really rally clingy. I'm only 36 weeks so hopefully it just means soonish rather than immediate!
  • I was just telling my husband that our dog literally won't give me any space the last two days. She's like a little heater next to me. I can't even get a break from her. Now tonight, I just lost my mucus plug so i guess dogs can sense something!
  • This is my struggle right now. She injured her back a few days ago, and has not left my side, even when it's painful for her to move. We are keeping her pretty doped up though, hoping she heals on her own and doesn't need surgery. So i spend my days worrying of my first "baby" will make it to see my last baby born. It's very stressful right now.

Aww I'm so sorry to hear that! Praying that she gets better!

My cat has been sniffing my boobs I think he's attracted to the colostrum. I thought being at home all day might make him want to cuddle more but he just ignores me till he's hungry or wants attention.
  • Yup! My dog lays his head right on my belly! He did before I found out I was pregnant and now that I'm near the end he really started being clingy! Like he's guarding me or something. I'm loving it :)
  • My dogs have always been really cuddly. However, my friends dog stlicking licking (kissing) my belly yesterday and laid his head on my belly.
  • Nope, my dog is still an asshole! :)
He's always a cuddle bug, but when he's not napping, he's jumpy play with me play with me freak! He ripped my cute shorts the other day trying to get me wrestle with him when I was just walking thru the backyard. Must not be time yet!

scientists have proven that the frequency of cat purrs are healing! I love when my cats lay against me and purr, too :)
  • I had to take my dog to vets a couple weeks ago and he had a huge anxiety attack and even growled (which he never does!!). He's a rescue and has been to this vets several times with no problems. They weren't able to do his tests and he's gotta go back tomorrow for a second attempt. Vet thought maybe it was because my pregnancy is advancing. Hubby's gonna take him in this time and hopefully that'll help! Fingers crossed! My poor pup!
  • My cat and dog have also been super clingy lately! And my dog hasn't been eating as much.. Never thought much of it bc she's fickle sometimes but maybe she senses something coming!!
  • I'm working at home and my littlest nugget has been going from watching the window to watching me all day. Kind of creepy but also super cute haha!
