2nd Trimester

Pregnant & Moving

I will be 16 weeks when I move later on this week & I just needed advice or experience stories on this. I haven't been doing much lifting since I found out I was pregnant but now that I sort of need to what type of restrictions do I have to be in the 2nd trimester?

(I'm also going to be calling my doctor as well, offices just not open yet)

Re: Pregnant & Moving

  • Ditto PP. I moved 18 weeks on to my first pregnancy. Use common sense.

  • I'm going to be moving at 20 weeks. Don't lift anything heavy. I'm sure your body will know what is too much. I am going to do the packing while my husband, dad and brother do the lifting.
  • I'm also 16 weeks (on Tuesday) and will be moving on Friday. Luckily I won't need to be doing any heavy lifting. What to Expect says that if you're having a healthy pregnancy then heavy lifting (within reason) shouldnt be a problem. However I would exercise caution and really try and minimise heavy lifting. If you can only lift things you feel comfortable with, and remember to lift using your knees and not your back! Good luck and look forward to that sigh of relief once you're all moved in!
  • I did that last pregnancy. I packed everything but don't forget that you will be unpacking and cleaning a lot too. I was so happy to be in my nesting stage so the cleaning part was a breeze. Hubby wouldn't let me lift anything heavy.
  • I moved at the start of june at about same #of weeks. I have been doing weight training regularly before and during pregnancy. My family and friends still wouldn't let me help with furniture, but I helped with many of the big tupperware tubs that we had. People told me to shoot for under 30lbs. I found myself more tired from up and down steps more than weight, but do what is comfy, and if you have plenty of helpers, let them do the heavier stuff. Good luck. We are still unpacking.
  • I moved last weekend and was just weary of what I picked up - I know a few ladies who have put their back out during pregnancy (as everything gets a bit looser) so was pretty careful. It can also be hard to carry boxes that I would have balanced against my stomach in the past and now there is a bump in the way
  • Definitely consult your doctor. I moved at 6 weeks and we are obviously still unpacking all the boxes. My doctor said have people move the boxes and then you put the stuff where you want it. He limited me to 10lbs or less. I had packed everything before we were even pregnant so it wasn't an issue.
  • My husband and I moved at around 16 weeks. I found that the one thing that killed me the most was lifting the boxes off the floor and setting them down. My husband started lifting them and handing them to me and I was fine after that. I would just advise you to know your limits and do not be afraid to leave the heavy lifting for others while you can.
  • I'm not looking forward to moving during pregnancy...we are likely moving me either just before delivery or just after. :/ I would say just don't strain yourself..

  • I moved around 14 weeks, I'm 19.4 now. I'll be moving again in about a month, joy. Can you ask friends to help move boxes? I plan to unpack everything and not lift a box at all. Definitely know your limits.
  • I'm moving at 22 wks. I find dragging things works well. Don't lift over your head and avoid lifting over belly. I'm also hiring movers to actually lift, drive and move the boxes, furniture into the house. Prices are pretty reasonable if you have to rent a moving truck anyway. Call to get all of your paper work so you can bring it to your new Dr and be sure the new Dr accepts 2nd trimester patients. My dr mentioned that some don't like to take transfers. Good luck!
