Anybody else just completely lose interest in food?

Just all of a sudden around 12/13 weeks, eating became a chore. I have been eating toddler/child size meals for months. It's not even nausea or morning sickness or even really what I would call food aversions, it's just I simply don't like food anymore. I never enjoy anything I eat at all and never am satisfied. I use to love food, and have been known to choose different countries to travel to just to enjoy the cuisine. Use to love cooking and would really label myself a foodie. But now even when I am hungry, as soon as I start eating my appetite vanishes. I've been surviving off of quick snack foods that I can easily force down. Like fruits, nuts, cheese, yogurt, soups, oat meal and tons of organic protein drinks full of nutrients and other super foods. But still I am eating like a picky child. My doctor is not the slightest bit concerned, I've still gained 16 pounds and baby is right on track so I'm happy but I just want to pig out sometimes and can't. I'm afraid my appetite will never be the same lol. I couldn't even eat junk food if I wanted to now. Will it go back to normal? Is it true that you crave the things your body needs? My reproductive immunologist has me on a concoction of prescription vitamins too, could that be why? Anyone else the same?

I'm right there with you. Small meals for me, and I don't really care what it is, just don't want to be hungry. This is a change for sure, because even just a few weeks ago my appetite was enormous. I'm just waiting for that post-delivery hunger, I could have eaten a horse each day for a week last time!

Yes! I pretty much don't care what it is as long as it's healthy and mostly organic, but that's not really pregnancy related it's just how I am anyways. But I do like junk food and "unhealthy" foods too sometimes, but that stuff is even less appealing that other things. So I just make sure that if I'm going to choke something down, it might as well be healthy too. :/

  • Portion size has changed for me as I can't eat as much as I used to but I do find myself eating every few hours now. I want all the food but can't fit it in my belly. With dd1 it did go ha j to normal shortly after birth and even increased some as I nursed her so my body wanted extra food (and j had the room for it once she was out ha!)
  • I hate food, but I still have a lot of aversions. Nothing ever sounds good. It's a nightmare going out to eat with family because they always ask me what I'm feeling and I never have an answer because food is gross. If I didn't have to eat, I wouldn't.

I keep telling myself ' I can't wait till this is over so I can not eat if I want' . There is not one thing that I enjoy eating. I'm sorry you have so many aversions :(

  • It stinks, but I'm used to it at this point. Whats funny is I'm saying everything sounds gross, but at the moment I kind of want a chunk of watermelon. Haha!

I get that too...like 'this sounds super good'.... Then I'll start eating it and my appetite is like HA just kidding!!!

  • Haha! I know the feeling all too well!! Hopefully our appetites go back to normal after all this. I've heard they do. One good thing from all this is that it's kept me from pigging out and gaining too much weight.
  • I wish I had that problem, especially the junk food aversion!

Seriously, though, I'm sorry you're not really enjoying food. That sucks. The good news is that your appetite should return to normal when your hormones get back to normal. I couldn't stomach chicken or eggs when I was pregnant with DS, and I went back to normal within a few weeks or so after he was born.

You know what, I guess were lucky in that way....won't have much weight to lose! I can't wait to eat just because something tastes good again ;)

I really wish I could be like that. I honestly like food. A lot. I've still gained 7kg despite, so now I weigh 60kg. I've never had a large appetite before but I could always eat something just be cause it tasted good. I have even chose specific countries to travel to just because I liked their cuisine. Poland & France YUM. But now nothing is the same. I almost want to cry over it. I don't even like sweets anymore. Haven't ate a chip in months. I'm probably getting more nutrition than the average person because of all the home made juicing and protein drinks I'm consuming says my doctor so baby is ok, but I'm not. I hate food lol. I'm terrified I'll never be the same again. I'll bet you look cute despite feeling like you're big. I wish I looked big so I could take some maternity pictures. The photographer would probably think I was pretending. I don't even want to do a hospital tour because I'm afraid everyone will look at me like I'm casing the place in hopes to steal a baby. It's so strange to me I'm literally a freak of nature! Will you eat a cheeseburger for me & describe the taste? Lol ;)

  • 100% in the same boat. I've been this way the entire time. I keep saying I don't remember what hunger feels like. And also that I can't wait to not eat! What a luxury! I hate when someone asks what I'm feeling because I just say "not eating". I too have been surviving off tiny meals/smacks of fruit, cheese, toast, and the occasional real meal with my husband that I eat very slowly because it's so hard! I can't wait to enjoy food again. This sucks. I've still gained 29 lbs though and the baby is in the 80th percentile, so clearly he is getting what he needs.
  • As soon as I hit the third trimester I lost all interest in food:( My husband is a great chef but nothing is interesting to me. I find myself skipping snacks because I don't feel hungry. Hoping the dietitian has some good hints for me!
  • I also haven't been hungry pretty much the whole pregnancy. I am 7 months and weight the same amount now as I did at 6 weeks (I have plenty of extra lbs so the md isn't worried). I read that low iron in pregnancy makes you not as hungry. I have been on iron pills and not seen a difference. They also are considering me with gestational so now high risk (I got sick during the 3 hour). Now they are telling me I might have to go on insulin if I don't get my blood sugars down, which is frustrating since I am not hungry or eating anything outrageous I have no significant weight gain and the baby is only in the 50% percentile. Grr
