Newborns and TV

We spend a lot of time in the family room. I typically breastfeed on the couch. We have a very large TV in that room. I notice that baby is really interested in the TV. He turns his head and is mesmerized at times. I assume it is the light and motion. Anyone else notice this with their kid? Am I a bad parent for having the TV on?

Re: Newborns and TV

  • I feel the same way. I try to change rooms to stimulate him since I am in the same boat.
  • Loading the player...
  • My LO likes the lights as well.
  • My baby girl notices the tv as well but is far more interested in music :)
  • Mine does this too sometimes
I just make sure it's off/I'm in a darkened room during the evening and nighttime feeds - so she can learn day from night

I don't think your a bad parent at all - breastfeeding can be very time consuming- I think if you want to watch a little tv while you feed, there's nothing wrong with that
  • Still waiting on this baby, but I def had the tv on every time I nursed my 1st during the day. You are not a bad parent at all! Gotta keep yourself entertained too! I am really not in to letting babies watch tv, but I sincerely feel that would not negatively impact baby's development in any way. He/she certainly has plenty of non-media related stimulation, so I'm sure you're fine
