Poop, poop everywhere!

For the last couple weeks my son has been pooping through his diaper, every single morning. At first I thought it was because the diapers were to small, so I upgraded him to size two. This only stopped the blowouts during the day. Even with a brand new clean diaper, he's blowing out every single morning. So either the diapers are too small to hold the poop and he blows out up his back, or they're big enough but he's got li'l chicken legs so it blows out by his legs. Losin' my mind here. Pretty sure the reason why he only blows out in the mornings is that for what ever reason, he doesn't poop during the night so it builds up- though he does pee. Not that there is anything I can do about that. We primarily use Huggies. Any suggestions?

  • Try a different brand? We tried Huggies and my son leaked out with every diaper. He never did with pampers.
That sounds like s lot of poop! My son goes once a day if we are lucky!

  • I was holding my daughter the other day (she was facing forward) and heard something hit the ground. It was POOP! It was all over the floor and all down my side. I have no idea how she managed that. I also had to clean her and the puddle of poop in her car seat in the Culver's parking lot at 9:00 at night once. It's never ending fun!

What kind of Huggies do you use? We can't use the snugglers because the legs are too wide, but the other kind of Huggies work well for us. I also like Pampers too!
  • Like @MegsB1112 we also use the Huggies Snug and Dry Ultra instead of the Little Snugglers. They fit great and have good elastic around the legs and back...oh and they are cheaper than the Little Snugglers.
  • Try the nighttime cuddlers. They have more padding. I only use them at night BC they don't have the pee indicator. (so what they are used for LOL)
  • My DS pooped out of Huggies daily. He still does occasionally with Pampers but not like he was. I make sure I pull the back up as high as I can to keep it contained.

As for the size - I moved DS up to size 2 pampers and bought 2 types accidentally. The baby dry fit WAY smaller around his hips than the snugglers. So you might notice a difference in size based on type of diaper and not just brand.
  • My DS leaks out of huggies with every poop, even if it's not that much. We're waiting for pampers to come from Amazon Mom.
  • I am assuming that if you were interested in using cloth, you probably would have tried to by now, and it's not for everyone, but for what it's worth, I have a super pooper who saves it all up for a mass exit and she used to blow out the legs and up the back of pampers swaddlers, Huggies and honest company diapers (both newborn and size 1) on an almost daily basis... We just started cloth 2 weeks ago and haven't had a single leak, including overnight and massive bowel movements
  • I can second the PP about cloth. 3 months old and never have had a leak. Cloth isn't for everyone, so no pressure. But my baby doesn't leak at all in them!
  • This may sound silly but how does your LO sleep? If you put him in the same spot everynight on a soft mattress his head could sink it and be lower than his body which means poop would be going up his back.

The mattress in LO's basket is very impressionable and we had that problem with poop and pee then i changed the matress position and all was good

That being said, LO hasn't gone in 2 days, please join me in praying for a poopy diaper tomorrow :(

    THIS.
  • Most of our Huggies are snugglers, but there's a few we got from a diaper cake that I don't know what type of Huggies they are.

I gave always been interested in trying cloth but I just don't know where to start. I always worried it wouldn't have the same leak protection but it sounds like it's better. I also live with my in laws and I don't know how they would feel about his poopy diapers in their washing machine. Not to make excuses, I love to hear possible solutions.

I don't think his pooping out his to do with how he is sleeping, since I vary where he sleeps in the crib and that some of his blowouts he's been held.
  • @funkydunnk, it was super intimidating for me too! I watched a bunch of YouTube videos showing the different options and decided pocket style diapers were for us, we love thirsties, Blueberry, rumparooz and bumgenius brands but there are a ton out there and will find your baby differently. Nikki's diapers, Kelly's closet, and diaper junction are a few websites that offer trials where you can try diapers and use them for 15 or 30 days with the option to return if you don't like them... We did this to see which ones fit best and learn what we liked.
Washing can be an issue especially if it's not your own machine, so I totally understand your concern, plus there is definitely a commitment to planning for it and staying on top of washing them versus just tossing a disposable away, so I get that it doesn't work for anyone, just wanted to throw it out there as a possible solution (the way my hubby put it was that poop was going in the washing machine no matter what- either on our clothes, sheets, blankets, etc when she had a blow out or on diapers, lol, the glamorous life of motherhood)
  • I use Pampers, and my LO also regularly has explosive poops that come out the sides and back of the diaper! He also wets himself through his clothes nearly every night!!

I thought this photo from a wedding we went to this weekend was appropriate. He had a near blowout prior to this photo also.
