(This post is kinda just for fun first of all.) So we had bad timing.. My due date is September 1st and my insurance policy runs out August 31 meaning if I deliver after the 31st.. I have to start all over with a new $3000-5000 deductible. So I need my son to come out before August 31st! (We'll deal if not.. But it will just suck money wise.)
Everyone has already told me to start walking.. What are other old wives tails to do to help move things along?! I'm good with him coming any time after 37 weeks so just another week and a half!
That is sucky timing . Have you explained your situation and talked to your doc about a 39 week induction? Honestly, if he/she checks you and your dilated at all, you may be able to convince the doc to do one.
Well I'm having him at a birth center all natural... And I don't think they even do inducing there unless absolutely medically necessary. I don't want to but it is something i will ask about at my appointment next week. I also am going to ask if they can back date it.
Sex is honestly a great inducer haha bouncing on a tampoline. I've also heard riding on a really bumpy road. We did the first a lot with my first ands he was 9 days early haha I also ate Mexican the night before which apparently spicy foods is suppose to help too.
Clary Sage Essential Oil...a friend opened the bottle and went into labor. I'm getting a bottle to have on hand because this baby is not allowed to be late.
Honestly I don't think any "natural" induction methods really do much if your body isn't already ready to go- I think they can speed up the process by maybe a day but its not like pitocin that can put you into labor regardless.
That being said- sex is 100% the best natural method, orgasm can cause uterine contraction and semen has natural prostaglandins in it which help with ripening the cervix. Once you're contracting walking and nipple stimulation can help intensify them, bouncing on a labor ball and lunges can help open the pelvis and help position baby in optimal positioning. You could also ask your midwives to strip your membranes if you're already dilated at all- I was induced with #1 (for serious medical issues) but had natural deliveries with #2&3 and my midwives were comfortable stripping my membranes once at 38 and 39 weeks but I was dilated 2-3cm by that point with #2 and 4cm by 38 weeks with #3. Even with membrane stripping I don't know that it necessarily sped things up (#2 came at 39w3d, #3 at 39w6d). Good luck! I know how stressful the insurance stuff can be :-/
I don't think you can induce yourself. With my first I tried everything once my due date hit (except castor oil). I walked, bounced, all the teas, EPO, spicy food, nipple stimulation. I made my husband have sex with me three times a day lol. I had like 10 membrane sweeps.
Nipple stimulation! More specifically, breast pumping. If you have one, I'd hook the boobies up around 38 weeks. Do it every day for 15-20 minutes. Definitely talk to your doc or midwife before you do just to be safe.. but it's one of the few proven ways to naturally induce labor. Nipple stimulation produces the hormone oxytocin which actually stimulates contractions.
I agree with pp. Clary Sage Essential oil is a strong one. Rub it on the inside of your ankles and it will induce labor quickly. I have a bottle on hand just in case.
This is #3 and I'm giving acupuncture & massage a try this time. My massage therapist also mentioned lavender around your belly button near your due date might help.
Membrane sweep; most midwives will do them but you have to be dilated. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It worked for my first two births (had them each a day after the sweep).
Semen is a natural cervix softener. Some say evening primrose oil as a cervix softener suppose tory. Birth ball bouncing I read somewhere and Ina May's breastfeeding book said pumping wasn't the right nipple stimulation to induce but regular was. Certain pressure points on ankles I heard fromyou massage therapy
I also read (on what to expect's website) that one way to induce labor is by nipple stimulation. It releases oxytocin naturally & can cause contractions.. however, those contractions can be extremely strong & possibly cause fetal distress. I have heard of people trying by pumping but they had no success. You have to actually stimulate them with your fingers.
From experience Castor Oil. It's gross but it works. The nerves of the uterus and the intestines are very close. Caution though you will be pooping non stop and if your not close to your due date it can be very unsafe. I drank a small bottle mixed with some lemon juice. Things started within an hour. I delivered the next day. He was due on Christmas Day and we didn't want that.
My sister went into labor early because her apartment building caught on fire and her crazy neighbor started banging on the door which freaked my sister out and she had to go to the hospital. So getting scared and stressing out maybe?
Otherwise I'd say sex and exercise, since that's what you are not allowed to do when avoiding early labor.

DO NOT DO THIS! it's incredibly dangerous for the baby. The castor oil is a laxative that can be passed through the placenta to the baby. It can cause the baby to aphyxiate on the merconium if they release their bowels. Do any of the other suggestions but please don't do this one.
I can also say that the membrane sweep worked for me. I had it done at my 39 week am appointment and was having contractions on the elevator down to the car. I was admitted some hours later and had my little girl very first thing the next morning. Works for some, and not for others. I didn't have high expectations of it working, but I tried it anyways and I'm glad I did.
My grandmother mother got on a carnival ride that spins and she went into labor the next day. That was in Costa Rica over 30 years ago lol, I'm not sure they would even let you on one now. Castor oil. I walked for 5 hours the day before I went into labor.
We already talk to our baby and my body preparing for labor. It's something I've been learning more about. Baby was always transverse breech, so we told him to go head down and he did. Then he was sunny side up all the time so I told him to turn around and now his hiccups are against the outside of my belly so I think he turned We plan to just continue telling him and me what's next. Check out Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize. She talks a lot about this in her book (Biblical). I got it on audio for about $4.00 Maybe if you like the idea, you can pray and speak and encourage baby to come as soon as he/she is ready! It couldn't hurt! best wishes!!!
I ate an entire pineapple and just got a canker and felt sick. I had 3 membrane sweeps. Nada. Went 10 days overdue so I have ZERO advice. I have heard that bumpy roads and long walks do help though.
My husband swears he knows of 5 different women that have taken a shot of hot sauce and driven over railroad tracks and then gone into labor. haha worth a try I guess
With my son I stood on my left leg while patting my head and rubbing my stomach while my husband fed me chocolate covered strawberries. Worked like a charm! Baby came that night!
I opened my app today and so many of the top posts are about dilation, labour, and birthing. Do you know what that means?! That means we're heading towards to the finish line!!!! Woohooo! Anyways, unfortunately baby usually only comes when ready, I'm sorry the dates are so close! How frustrating! I would definitely start drinking raspberry leaf tea, you can start that around 32 weeks. It doesn't induce but it supposed to help make your contractions more effective and it helps prep your uterus. Some chiropractors and massage therapists also say they can bring labour on via pressure points. Clary Sage oil, make sure it's a good quality one, I'd recommend young living.
I second the castor oil! My SIL just had her baby a couple days ago and when we went to visit, she said she drank castor oil that night not thinking it'd make a difference. She said it did send her to the bathroom but it also induced her labor (or she at least assumes that it had something to do with that). It'd be worth a try!

My husband works at a holistic healing place, he wants me to get acupuncture there if we go past our due date. I don't personally believe it will work but some people swear by it.

I'm a bit of a skeptic myself but my brother is an acupuncturist and I know he's successful flipped breech babies before, so it wouldn't surprise me if they can induce people, too!

I was 11 days late and induced at the hospital
