Trump called bf/pumping disgusting!

My cousin posted a link to a story about Trump refusing to take a break when an opposing lawyer asked for a "medically necessary " break so she could go pump. I reposted this and my husband's aunt and I proceed to have a slightly heated debate about it. She was on Trump's side saying that women not pumping at work always worked before. I explained that that was because new mothers stayed home or had to rely on formula (nothing against ff). I said it is a woman's hard fought right not to have to choose between her career and feeding her child breast milk. She then said that it is disgusting because she had to cover for a coworker who "did the breastfeeding and pumping thing at work."

I ended the discussion politely saying that, once again, bf/pumping is not disgusting. It saved my son's life.

I was shocked to see such a strong stance against bf from a woman. I guess experience colors opinions.

Can you share this link?  I am interested to read
  • Oh, I have no fear that he will get very far. I was more upset by the comments I received from my dh aunt defending Trump and agreeing that bf was disgusting.

I'll see if I can share the link. I'm mobile and not very tech savy.
  • His twitter response to CNN was a knee slapper! I'm sure she didn't want to pump in front of him. What a load of crap
  • @CaraBoonie I'm not sure if she meant in general or at work. Yeah, there's nothing pleasant about pumping but I'd never do it in front of anyone. And yeah, his reply that she wanted to pump in front of him is absurd. I didn't even like pumping in front of dh, nevermind a jerk like Trump. I think he's saving face because it was pointed out to him that that view is very outdated and would cost him votes.

I think he's just bored and thought a campaign for President would be a fun way to spend his billions.
  • @MrsB915 Not to mention full of himself and likes attention. People very close to me have personally worked with him on certain projects and he is even more horrible in private than what the public sees.

  • @SummerOH I was going to make the same point about smokers in my discussion with her but I think she is a smoker (only met her once or twice years ago) and I didn't want to be perceived as striking a low blow.

The smoke break comparison is so accurate. I can't tell you how many smoke breaks I've had to cover throughout my work history. I never thought it was fair but bosses never batted an eye when a coworker "needed" a smoke break. So when I was in college I started to take "smoke breaks" myself. I'd announce I was going like my coworkers did and just go outside for 3-4 min and have my little break. They never said anything, probably knew it was just.
  • I just watched the actual interviews with both parties on the news, the lady says she needed to excuse herself to pump, trump says she wanted to pump in front of her. He said she said. That being said I agree with all of you that breastfeeding isn't looked at fairly. In my past job I pumped in a hallway by a bathroom because they weren't about to give up the one office they do business in at my work. And when I broached the pumping subject as far as time needed to do that, the rules didn't apply to my company because typical laws protecting us, only apply to certain business. They had less than 50 employees so I was entitled to nothing according to them.
  • I have and will breastfeed my next baby and I don't see how women are so comfortable to pull out their boobs to start pumping/breastfeeding. Why can't it be common courtesy to not expose yourself to people that might feel uncomfortable? Trump 2016! Anything is better than a supporter of killing babies like King Obama.

  • I can't believe it's an issue for women to breastfeed wherever they find necessary. When a puppies are feeding off of their mother, is that "disgusting" or uncomfortable to see? Humans are supposed to be different? I don't understand it at all.
  • @CaraBoonie I agree! I understand the standpoint that BF is "gross" because it involves bodily fluid and private parts and makes people uncomfortable, but that doesn't make it unnecessary or unnatural. A lot of natural things about our bodies are unpleasant, that doesn't mean we just figure out how to live without it. We all have to poop and pee even if it's considered gross. Moms definitely don't enjoy pumping and a lot don't enjoy breastfeeding, we do it anyways because babies NEED to eat and our bodies are designed to feed them. The topic of breastfeeding would be SO different if it were men and not women that did it.****** I swear, there would be comfy private breastfeeding rooms in every establishment and free pumps handed out to every expecting employee.

Your last sentence is on point! I usually don't weigh-in on male vs female, but I feel like this is oh so true. And sad. Very sad.

Women are not running around top less just waiting for their kid to get hungry. The boob is exposed for maybe a few seconds before the baby latched and feeding, you are more than welcome to divert your gaze.
Not to mention this lawyer, was trying to take a break to pump in private. So I am really not sure where you are going with that statement.
Trump is an attention seeking, sexist, pig; and lazy voters who don't want to research the candidates is how idiots get voted into office.
Lol that's exactly how Obama was elected TWICE!
  • I can & do nurse in public without giving a damn. I support any working mother's right to take breaks to pump. I support breast feeding as any woman sees fit. Not your breasts & not your problem!

  • *lurker from TTGP* I'll probably get flack for this, so if I offend anyone I apologize.

The statements given vary so much within this story it's hard to find the truth.

Trump claims he finds the play to use Pumping as a way to halt the negotiations "disgusting", meaning she did it on purpose as a business strategy. He also claims there was a break scheduled at 3 specifically for this mother to pump, and there is also a statement that he had another lawyer replaced because the other gentleman wanted to take a pee break. hard to claim this as sexist when he was being a dick to everyone)

On the other hand the mother claims there was a 12:30 lunch break that she was planning on using to pump that Trump completely disregarded and had them work through. Which I for one very well believe. She was then told she was disgusting for pumping.

    So either:
    1) Trump disregarded a mothers need to pump, acting like an ass.
    2) the opposing client (mother) knew she was loosing and used pumping as an excuse to stall for time.
    3) trump is an idiot and didn't realize that a mother needs to pump multiple times a day and the 12:30 slot he took away was detrimental to her child's feeding schedule.

All are likely in my eyes in the business world and it is really hard to make a judgment on something I was not an eye witness to.
