OB Rant

I selected a new OB group with this pregnancy because we lost the first one and I couldn't handle going to the same office for the new pregnancy. The first Dr. I met with was wonderful, and made me feel really confident. As time wore on, I ended up having more appts with another Dr. who just can't seem to remember anything about me. She did my 8wk ultrasound and told me I was having twins...then retracted when another OB reviewed the image. She ordered tests and then asked me why I was having them. She stood chatting with the receptionist while I waited in a room (in earshot) for 20 mins and then left without seeing me for a delivery. Today I got "and why are you having an NST?" in the middle of my weekly (ordered by another OB) NST appt. The final straw was that she told me I had the wrong due date (the one she gave me at the 8wk ultrasound!) so that I am actually 1 day overdue instead of 2 days from my EDD. I can't seem to avoid this lady, and she does nothing to instill confidence! Ugh! Wish there was some way to bar her from the delivery room! Am I crazy or would this bug you all too?

End of rant.

Re: OB Rant

  • That would drive me crazy! I would have changed doctors offices a long time ago. Even though I go to a clinic with several doctors I only see 1 they don't switch on me. I would hate that. I'm even trying to relax this weekend because my doctor is out and I only want her to do my c section. I would try to discuss with her your concerns. It seems like she is t very professional and seems to have other priorities on her mind. I'm so sorry for your experience I hope it ends better then the rest!

Ummmm....yeah!! Can you say incompetent! I would be pissed too :-?
  • I'm pretty sure you can request to not have her see you again, right? Because the clinic and other OB's may be awesome but if she is bugging you, you can do without her. Especially if you don't like her. That will just add stress in the delivery room.
  • I did request not to have her. It didn't do much good. Apparently the other doctors are more popular and have full schedules. I often have trouble scheduling my appts because I have no time off until baby comes, and I work the same hours they are open.
  • Exactly. This lady is only available because she sucks. I'm sorry. Stand up for yourself and a) write a formal complaint and b) change offices if they won't let you see another dr. No one is going to do it for you if you don't. Can you imagine what it would be like with her in delivery room? We moved with this pregnancy and the first OB I was at just didn't give me the right vibe. I could just tell we weren't going to mesh so I called and had my records transferred. Very glad I did. I also go to a big practice now where I see multiple docs and midwives but they're all great and on the same page. They document every conversation and READ THE PREVIOUS DOCS NOTES BEFORE THEY SEE ME. I'm sorry you're going through this.
  • Definitely stand up for yourself again and be harsh about it if you have to. I hate doing that to people because I've been the one behind the desk before. But seriously it's your health and your babies and you deserve to have a beautiful experience! Let us know how it goes.
  • Well, my induction is scheduled for tomorrow with the OB I actually like, so hoping things go well. Wishing I would start labor this evening to avoid the induction, but baby girl hasn't given us any indication she is ever coming out! Exciting to think I could be holding her in my arms by late tomorrow!
  • That all sounds annoying. I did have to remind my OB about certain things sometimes, but they were little. Like, that I was group b strep positive in my urine so I didn't need the test for it at 36 weeks. That was it though, and it was in the record right in front of him he just overlooked it. I can't imagine them not knowing ANYTHING, EVER!
  • I would be super annoyed. My OB practice also has multiple doctors which never seemed to be an issue until this pregnancy. With my first two everything was consistent, this time around I basically would receive different info from a different doctor every appointment in the last month. I had my DD a few days ago and we are now done but I totally sympathize. Good luck with your induction tomorrow!
  • Dear god I would be annoyed.. Forgetting some things is acceptable as they see so many patients they can't remember it all.. Such as my doctor. I absolutely love her!! I live an hour from her office, and was going with the same doctor I had with my second child, even tho I. Can't stand him. But he was the better of two evils in my town that would take me.. He then decided I was too high risk and sent me there.. Best thing he could ever do. Anyways... She would come in and ask me why I was taking a certain medicine that she prescribed. And then would remember and say "oh yea nvm" and one time she came in and asked me what my birth plan was (even tho I had to have a repeat scheduled c section from day 1) and when I told her that.. She said "oh that's right!" Lol. So it did get kind of sketchy when she would ask these things.. But I understand.. And at least she would remember. She always remembered everything else. Even the last appointments. And she was always excited to see me and measure me and take the heart beat. Always upbeat and wonderful. I can't wait till my 6 week app :)
Anyways.. Hang in there.. Your almost done. And yes you can demand to see the other doctor in the office. If you don't feel safe with her, it's up to you.
  • I was ok with my doctor until the last month. When I was going out for work, I came to realize they weren't keeping records up with what I was telling them. Luckily, it's a large practice so at the hospital, I had a different doctor from the practice and I liked him. He was nice and did what needed to be done before it was too late (I ended up with a csection). I hope all goes well for you tomorrow!
