bell's palsy during pregnancy?

Anyone experience this? I woke up yesterday with one side of my face being super weak & not really having control of my facial muscles. Called into my doc's exchange today & he said that it probably is Bell's Palsy. My sis had it when we were kids, but apparently pregnant women in their 3rd trimester are like 3x more likely to get it than any group. Super weird!
I'm heading into urgent care after my son's nap to get checked out & prob get some steroids. Not sure why this decided to manifest itself at 40+ weeks. I think I'm actually a little bitter.

Re: bell's palsy during pregnancy?

  • Aw. I have heard about it.. Good thing is it goes away after birth. But your doing the right thing by going to be checked. Just to be sure. Good luck. Praying all goes well.

  • Thanks @zmombie. They confirmed Bell's palsy & I have some prescriptions getting filled now. I tell ya, this pregnancy just keeps feeling longer and longer.
  • I'm sorry to hear you're having to go through this on top of already being past your due date. Hoping for some relief for you and that you have your little one soon seeing as it will go away once he/she decides to come.

Aw I'm sorry. I hope everything goes smoothly from here on out.
  • Thx ladies. Let me just say the steroids are pretty legit. I took one dose before bed last night & can already tell an improvement!
