Our LO is 5 days old. I don't plan on taking her anywhere with lots of people but DH and I have been wanting to take walks with her around the neighborhood.
Personally I think you're fine to go out if you feel ready. I always keep my ergo carrier handy & put baby in there for when we go out to busier places. No one can touch a baby who's all nestled up next to momma.
I took my wee girl out the day we got home from hospital!! Although we were there for 8 days so I think we were pretty safe as long as your not in a crowded area, we just went for a nice stroll around the park. But it's all your own personal preference.
LO is 2.5 weeks old. I started getting antsy after a week. We've taken him to places with very few people. He's gone to my school with me a couple times as I drop stuff off and pick stuff up, at most he's been around 7 people there, none who touched him. We've done walks around our neighborhood, unfortunately it's been hot here so haven't done that too much since by the time it cools off he's usually going down to sleep again. We also went to Starbucks and sat with him outside in the shade in his carseat to get some fresh air and get out of the house. Tomorrow DH goes back to work so it'll be just LO and me during the day. I have to go to my school to meet with my substitute so LO will come with again and I plan on taking him to a new parent support group that meets at the hospital I delivered at.
With both of my boys, we were out to eat and grocery shopping in the first week. In my experience, people see a tiny baby and don't even try to touch. It's when baby is more interactive that they try to play.

We went out to eat on our way home from the hospital. It wasn't too crowded or anything. Only one other person in the restaurant other than us. We've also went to the grocery store as well today. My LO is a week old today. No one has tried to touch him or anything like that.
