34 weeks not 30?!

okay!! So I just need to know because I'm so curious and don't see my doctor until Wednesday! I had an ultrasound today and she said I was 34 weeks not 30....I'm so excited we may get to meet our boy a little sooner but I'm somewhat shocked. Should I trust my new due date? Is this normal to be off that much?? I mean at 20 weeks they had him right on.....has this happened to anyone?!

  • I agree with pp.
Also, if you had a dating ultrasound early in the first trimester, those are the most accurate, I believe. Size estimates in the third trimester can be off quite a bit. So, if they had told you your due date early on from an ultrasound, I'd stick with that.

The ultrasound tech juts totally threw me off. She asked me when I thought I was due and when I told her Oct 4 she said no he is measuring exactly 34 weeks I have you at Sept 8th.....she didn't tell me anything else and I should've asked more questions. But thank you!! This should ease my questions until Wednesday a bit.
  • According to my OB that doesn't matter. Mine was measuring big and they just said he's a big baby. They said "if this was the first time you were coming in, based on this u/s we'd think your due date was x". They don't change due dates past the first tri.

  • THANK YOU! I will be sticking with my original Oct due date and welcoming him when he is ready to come!

At my 32 week ultrasound, I was told she was measuring ahead, but they don't change your due date. I got excited too when the tech said she was measuring ahead; I thought that maybe my original due date was more accurate. An early ultrasound pushed my due date back a week and I was told to go by that new due date. Babies will come when they are ready.
  • So is he going to just be like a huge baby lol!! I mean they said they're measuring him 34 weeks? And don't they gain like a pound a week at this point...

The later sonograms are not as accurate and can be off by up to two pounds. I wouldn't change the EDD by a whole month. If your baby is truly 30 weeks you don't want baby coming in the next 3-6 weeks, if you can help it.

  • I'm measuring a few weeks ahead as well,I asked the tech if that meant they would change my due date and she said no, they never change it this late in the game.
  • My midwife warned me not to trust third trimester ultrasound size estimates as they are often wrong.
  • My boy was measuring about 2-3 weeks ahead at my 33 week ultrasound. Also told me his weight estimate was 5lbs 12oz but they could be off by 13oz up or down. No change in due date but honestly really hoping he isn't a huge baby! FTM and nervous for delivery.
