Strollers for older kiddos?

When this baby is born my son will be a little over two and a half. We only use the stroller on longer walks or if we need to get some place in a hurry. Otherwise, DS walks everywhere. We live in the city and do a lot of walking. However, when my son was little he lived in the stroller. Hours every day. I'm wondering what parents of older toddlers do. Is it worth it to splurge on a double stroller? I did a lot of baby carrying when my son was little but he actually loves the stroller.

I don't want to waste money on a double if we won't use it much. How do mom's of multiple children with a few years age gap get around? Worth the investment? Or save the money and baby carry and/or let my older child walk?

  • I'm getting a ride-along board but DS will be 4. 2.5 might still be a little young, but it may be worth a shot?

That's a good idea. Even if he's too young at first it will probably be handy in a year or so when the baby is still in the stroller and DS is a bit older.
  • I'm going to start baby wearing this LO. My DD will be 2yr9mo when baby is born and she likes to walk with us, but we will have the travel system or an umbrella stroller with us just in case.

  • I'm planning on baby wearing instead of a double stroller. DD will also be 2 1/2 when baby gets here and we use her umbrella stroller when we need to but she mostly walks. I can't justify with our situation the additional cost of something we won't use often.
  • DS will be 3.5 when LO is born, so I am also going to be baby carrying and bringing an umbrella stroller for him when we are somewhere with lots of walking.

  • Our DD will be 2.5 when this one is born. We bought the baby trend sit n stand stroller. It is the only sit n stand that has two seats. The back seat can be removed to create the standing position for the older kid.
  • We got a sit and stand with #2. #1 was almost 3. It worked well because the car seat went in the back (stand part) and #1 sat in front. When #2 was big enough to sit up front, #1 was old enough to use the sit or stand part.
