Baby acne?

My three week old has just developed some baby acne on his face. I know it's fairly common in newborns due to hormones they receive from their mother during birth, but I was just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this issue and what you are doing to try to clear it up. I'm washing his face 3 times a day with a Johnson and Johnson's baby wash.

Re: Baby acne?

  • Same boat here...it looks awful. Just letting it do its thing to prevent further irritation

  • Yeah I hear ya on the baby acne, and the heat makes it so much worse! We're just letting it run its course the Dr said it goes away on its own then comes back when he's a teen lol.
  • Yes, I was saddened when it was said its my hormones that caused baby to break out lol. My son got it at 2 1/2 weeks and I'm glad to say that they are now clearing up. He will be four weeks on Wednesday.
I did try a small area on his face with breast milk. Although the milk did make the bumps not appear red, they were still present. However I was better off cleansing his face daily twice at least with a warm washcloth. It's clearing up on its own.
  • Before newborns have completed their initial skin pealing, you're really only supposed to give them a bath with soap every 2-3 days, and you really shouldn't use soap on their face. It may lead to additional irritation. Breast milk also clears up pink eye and ear infections ;-). Liquid gold!!!

  • I agree with not washing it so much, it could make it worse. My first son had it and I did nothing to clear it up, it was gone within a month. My second son is 3 weeks and his is starting to go away too.

My Dr said one to two times a week is plenty to wash the baby. Unless Needed otherwise. But I love the breast milk idea I never knew about that!!! Gonna try that tonight lol thanks ladies :)
  • Do baby aveeno works great
  • Wash with just warm water once or twice a day and then like @corndogrobot said lather your babe with breast milk too! Don't use soap because it will affect area more. I pump a little out and dip a cotton ball in it and apply to affected area. It will be significantly better by the next day. My doctor says to do it if baby has goopy eyes too! Apparently our milk has everything the baby needs! My doctor also said no lotions and to be sure you are using baby sensitive detergents. Hope this helps! My husband thought I was crazy when I did the milk trick and now he is a believer!
