My LO is 2 wks, and I am primarily breastfeeding her (she is cluster feeding right now). I started pumping once a day for supplement, and to build milk supply for when I return to work. I am only able to pump 1-3 ounces. Is this normal? Does it increase? Any tips to increase? Thanks!
Re: Pumping
BFing was going, but at our first follow up my son lost 11% of his weight. Milk came in that morning so I was determined! Oh, but the BF issues started-painful latch problems! No lactation nurse appt avail until the next day. So just gritted my teeth and hoped for the best. The next day, he hadn't gained any weight and no dirty diapers, hardly any wet diapers as well... Also his bilirubin levels were high. So pediatrician suggested supplementing with formula. Got home and was desperate. I looked at my DH and said, let's go buy a pump (as we were still waiting for mine to be delivered). And, no kidding, two seconds later there was a knock on the door AND it was my breast pump!!! I've been pumping and we've been bottle feeding ever since and my son passed ip his birth weight the following 2 days and his bili levels dropped. No more supplementing with formula for 3 days, just mama's milk!
That felt good to write! Whew!
