Pump efficiency

I've been using a Lansinoh pump a friend gave me, her twins are now 6 years old and she used the pump for a year so that's how old it is. It works fine but I'm wondering if I'd get more yield if I buy a brand new pump. Anyone have experience with upgrading an old pump and getting a lot more per pumping session?

Re: Pump efficiency

  • I don't have experience but a friend of mine offered to let me borrow her pump that she had.

It was 10 years old and since I am an exclusive pumper, I wanted one that was brand new. She let multiple people borrow her pump. Not that I know if it was better or not to buy a new one but I just felt it was a better choice personally.

  • I would give it a try and see how it works for you :) doesn't hurt, and if you don't like it, invest in a brand new one.
  • Check with your insurance company, most give them for free.
  • Yea most insurance companies give you one for free
  • Ok, update. Apparently our insurance through our jobs as state employees sucks, it's like the only plan that excludes pumps. Luckily I had some FSA $, sprang for a new pump today, Medala Pump in Style. Plus hands-free bra and the Lansinoh Thera-Pearls. My pumping game is now on point. Soooo much more comfortable than the old pump! Can't compare yield yet though, got excited and pumped 90 min after breastfeeding so didn't expect to get much, normally I'm feeding on 3 hr intervals.
  • Originally, my insurance didn't get a pump either...but now my insurance has changed. Anybody know how I go about getting a free one? I forgot how I checked last time.
  • @LBland09, call the number "for members" on the back of your insurance card and ask.
