Beach Time

We are taking our first trip to the beach with LO. I'm dying to get in the water..3 weeks pp, anyone else go for a swim after vaginal birth before 6 weeks?

Re: Beach Time

  • Eww no. No swimming for 6 weeks. Think how dirty that water is and possible infections.

Sorry. I'm dying to go to the pool, but don't want to get myself sick.

  • I wouldn't do it, why would you risk getting an infection? Why not just go and not swim?
  • Not worth the infection risk. Also, if you're still bleeding, super eww for the rest of the people in the water.

Also salt water? Still relatively fresh wounds? Sounds like a painful day for me. Wade up to your knees or enjoy the relaxation on the sand.
  • Not before six weeks for me. Doc told me my stitches have to be completely healed and zero bleeding and I'm not there yet.

But the other day I put my legs in the pool while my hubby and son swam. I held the new little guy on my lap. It felt awesome with it being above 90 degrees!
  • My doctor said if I am no longer bleeding I can swim.

  • I would do legs in the water but no more than that.

  • My LO gets so hot outside that I haven't been able to go to the beach. How are others dealing with that?
  • I called and asked my doctor yesterday actually and they said once the bleeding stops swimming is fine..granted I will just be getting in my own pool..idk if a public pool or ocean is the same
  • I would also be concerned about bacteria in the water and would probably just make do with getting my legs wet and maybe splashing my arms, not immersing myself. Definitely ask your doctor, but mine said don't even take a bath until 6 weeks. I had a c section though so it probably makes a difference?

  • Personally I'd be less worried about going swimming than about having sex. Based on the other thread where people are gettin' some after a week or two post-birth...I would think infection risk from ocean water is less than infection risk from penetration, unless you're swimming in some dank bay. But then again I don't have an MD behind my name so...take that with a grain of salt. I'm 4 wks PP and planning on going swimming in my pool sometime this week. Bleeding has stopped and I had a c-section so was never dilated. And scar is healed according to my OB. But no sexy time til after my 6 wk check for sure!
  • Called the doc and she said since my bleeding has stopped a dip in the ocean is a go!
  • I'm amazed that you're 3 weeks pp and have the energy to leave the house and go to the beach! I'm 10 days pp and barely have the energy to walk up and down the stairs in my house
  • My first was a vaginal.. I didn't swim or bathe for 6 weeks. Don't risk it.
