2nd Trimester

How long did it take to conceive?

Hi ladies,

This is my second month TTC and woke up to AF. I'm pretty sad, as my chart temps were staying high in the 2ww so I became cautiously optimistic. I'm just needing some emotional boosting...and wanted to know how many months it took for you to get pregnant? I recognize its still so early on for me and DH, but I'm just really sad today. Congrats to all of you!

Re: How long did it take to conceive?

  • 7 months, but that has not bearing on you.  The TTC board has lots of great posters if you are looking for support from someone in your same position.

    TTC #1 10/2014
    Low progesterone
    BFP 05/2015
    Baby boy born 01/2016
    Currently: NTNP

  • Thanks nlwz123. I've been lurking on that board for awhile now.. I guess today I'm just needing to hear some success stories to help me get through the sadness.

It took us 9 months, but we missed a couple of opportunities due to one of us being out of town for work
  • We conceived DD on NYE of 2009. It was a surprise and we welcomed her into the world in September of 2010. When she turned one we started TTC and went through many heartbreaks over negative tests and an early miscarriage. I don't want to sound cliche, we went from TTC to NTNP and pretty much gave up when I felt like I had the flu and decided to take a test on a whim. It took us 4 years and a hard, heartbreaking journey, but we're going to be welcoming DS in November.
  • 8 months with a CP in there for us - this will be #1

And I'll second PP's on the TTGP board has a lot of knowledgeable ladies, many of whom have been through this before - They taught me so much and are how I got through those 8 months!

Kiddo #1 = 10 cycles of trying, 1 CP and is now a toddler
    TTC#2 since 2/2017

  • 18 months, and I didn't conceive until I started getting healthy. I had what I thought were "normal" cycles before, but I started eating well and running 4-5 times a week and naturally lost about 15 lbs. we had gone through our infertility testing and everything came back normal except my glucose levels which were borderline diabetic so my dr prescribed me metformin, but I found out I was pregnant the next day. So looks like we did it all on our own. I was so sure that since it took so long that we wouldn't be able to get pregnant on our own. I was shocked when we did.
  • It took us 6 months after having my IUD removed.
  • My first took about 8 months. The second one I think was on the first try. Don't give up hope!
  • Also - I should add that (and this might not be your case) it can take up to 6 months for hormonal birth control to clear your system, and my friend who was a midwife says it can really be up to a year before it fully clears and things get back to "normal" - so keep that in mind too!

  • It took us a little over 4 years with multiple miscarriages. We started seeing a fertility specialist, took meds and had an IUI. They say it can take a "healthy" couple up to a year to conceive.

  • Thanks everyone! Hugs.
  • Blighted ovum then 18months to conceive again... Baby number 1 due in January x
  • Second baby and took us 8 months x
  • I conceived all of my kids on the first month trying besides my first. He was just a surprise baby. I'm pregnant with baby #4. I've heard it can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive naturally.
  • 6 months of being off birth control and prob 3 months of 'trying'. Heard 6months-year is average.
  • It took us 3 months to conceive. And that was with a lot of... Well.. Activity. :) 2 months is not very long... I hope it happens soon! Takes 3-6 months for birth control to totally exit the system. So I wouldn't worry. Keep your chin up and keep trying!

One year. After the 10 month mark I bought the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, started charting, cut out processed sugar and simple carbs and was pregnant 2 months later. Maybe coincidence, but I think that's what did it.
    Edit: oh and I'm 42.
  • It took me 6 years, 2 failed iui, and one successful ivf.
  • It took just about 4 months - I moved to the UK in December 2014 after getting my spouse visa, we started trying in January and got a BFP in May.

  • 5 months of ''trying" for us. Good luck and best wishes!

3 years for DS via IUI and 2.5 years for this current pregnancy via IVF.

TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck

Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man.  Born 12/2/11

TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended

Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good.  Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.

Back with RE as of January 2014...

    5/27/14- Chemical Pregnancy :(

    April 2015 IVF#1

    5/13/15- BFP, please stick LO!

Oh and I'm a major Harry Potter Nerd :)

  • I used NuvaRing before both pregnancies and started trying immediately after taking it out. DS took two cycles, DD took three.

This. Except our IUI didn't work. Ended up getting pregnant naturally afterm going on nuvaring for 3 months to calm down ovarian cysts.

  • After many years of birth control I got off them May 2014. We didn't do anything to prevent it but didn't do any charting or scheduling until November 2014 when I started doing ovulation sticks. This helped me figure out I don't ovulate until day 18 or 19 (i have pcos) but I didn't have the sex timing right until February 2015. Once I did have the timing right (2 days before positive stick) it happened right away- i got pregnant the first few days in March 2015. I hope it happens for you soon hon! Best of luck!

My average for active TTC is 2 months. I'm going on month #12 TTC #3 NTNP (whatever happens). This means nothing for you though. My success (or failure) means absolutely nothing for you.

  • Took DH and I 6 months.
  • 2 months.
  • 5 months of ''trying" for us. Good luck and best wishes!
    According to the "When did you know you were ready?" thread on D15 you said and I quote;

My husband and I moved REALLY fast. We met in October 14, married in December 14, and found out we were expecting in March 15. I love kids and always wanted to be a mommy, I just didn't expect it to happen so fast. We babysat for a friend once and realized we didn't want kids for a while. The man upstairs had other plans. :)
So you were "trying" since day one of meeting DH?!  Oh but wait you said you guys didn't want kids for a while, so no you couldn't have been trying for 5 months!   Anyways glad that you only had to try for "5 months"!! :-)
THIS. I was wondering the same freaking thing, I actually mentioned it in the other thread not even a minute ago!!

What is the difference between trying and "trying"?

Didn't you post in the "How long did it take you to conceive?" thread that you and your DH tried to conceive for 5 months? How do you try to get pregnant for 5 months if you had barely known each other that long when you got KU? Not trying to be rude, I'm curious how that works.

    Edited for clarity.
If I remember correctly I said we were "trying" for 5 months. Quotation marks because we weren't trying. That's just how long it took us to get pregnant. :)
Apparently the difference between trying and "trying" is a totally different definition of the word trying, in which they weren't trying.
    Because it makes total sense.

  • I'm not sure why you have to nitpick this? It is really not that big of an issue, and quite frankly really sad. It shouldn't bother you that much. :)
  • We're just "trying" to get some clarification on what you meant. B-)
  • Clarification was on the other board. But, I see what you did there. B-) clever.
