1st Trimester

First time mom and student

Hi guys! I'm in my last year of undergraduate school and currently 12 weeks pregnant. I moved away with my boyfriend just to go to school and now my counselor is telling me I should take that quarter off when the baby is due. I really feel I'll be able to continue going part time during that quarter as I will have help at home with the baby. Have any of you moms not take a break from school and go back a week or so after giving birth? And how hard was it? I'm not against taking a quarter off we just really want to get school done by June 2016 so we can move back and be with the rest of our family before the baby is too old. Any advice with help!

If you think you can do it, do it. I'm sure it'll be hard, but it will be worth it.

  • Agree with PP. Nobody knows your determination like you do. It's possible with hard work and determination. I am graduating from grad school Aug. 8, and I have 3 kids plus I'm 6 wks pregnant. You can do anything you set your mind to. Good luck to you!
  • My DD was born in February of my Junior year of college.  I didn't take any time off.  I just made sure to take only the core classes I had to and fill the rest of my credits with easier online electives.  I also crammed all the hard classes I could into the semester before she was born.  That semester was rough but it was worth it!  I think it just depends on how determined you are and how much is weighing on it.  I couldn't keep my scholarship and go part time so I honestly didn't consider it an option.  I just set my eyes on finishing! Good luck in whatever you decide! Its all about what feels right and manageable to you in the end :)

  • I'm due in February, 2016 and I'm in nursing school. I'm married and have lots of other support but still stressed! We got this!
  • I'm in grad school - due in February & Spring '16 will be my last semester.  I'm not sure where you stand credit-wise, but because DH and I knew we wanted to get pg, I planned my semesters accordingly - I worked my butt off (taking 7 classes when 4-5 is recommended), but that means (with other extras that I've taken over the previous 5 years)... I only "have" to take 2 courses each semester to fulfill remaining requirements.

I will also say - in any program I've been in some courses/professors are known to be "easier" than others - If you choose to take courses that quarter - I'd make sure that what your taking works well with your schedule and your strengths and maybe contact professors ahead of time to get a jump-start on readings before baby arrives?  I have a prof of a year-long course that is letting me do 3/4 of the work in first semester so that I literally only have to go to class and do minimal work outside of class 2nd semester.

Just my thoughts... Hope that helps!
