I thought of that too, except the name was Mulva and the joke was that it rhymed with a female body part.
I'm not sure how I feel about Melva. It's different and that could be good or bad. It doesn't sound all that feminine to me because of reminds me of Melvin.
Thought immediately of the Seinfeld episode. Jerry is dating a girl whose name rhymes with a part of the female anatomy. He can't remember her name at one point, so he says "Mulva?" It turns out her name is actually Delores.
Exactly what I was going to say about the Seinfeld episode! A lot of people are going to have that association I think. And it sounds a lot like Mulva....which was the joke because Mulva is such a ridiculous sounding name.

Melanie?
Mallory?
Viola?
Edit - I don't hate it because of that, just NMS
That is all.
But again, it's just nms but it's a real name and not offensive or stupid so why not, op, if you like it?
All I can think is that kids are cruel and Melva the Martian would be something she might be teased with.
