Losing the baby weight

what are you guys doing to lose the weight? I want to exercise after the kids go to sleep but I'm exhausted and just end up going to sleep with them! Any good tips or things that are working? I can't cut too many calories because I'm still breastfeeding

Re: Losing the baby weight

  • I'm 2 weeks post partum and just slipped back into my skinny jeans today!
I've been taking baby on 30 min stroller walks in the morning before it gets too hot. That's it! I'm breastfeeding too, so I can't/won't cut calories either. I drink a ton of ice water daily as well.

  • ^^ I'm almost 4 weeks post partum and did NOT slip into my skinny jeans. Or my fat jeans. Went to Target today and bought some fatter jeans because I give up, I will feel better having something other than pajamas that fits me at my current size. I'm in Phoenix and its soooo hot, wish I could walk but even in the morning it's 98 degrees. I'm trying not to eat junk food and hoping more weight comes off with bf'ing and pool jogging once I go back in the pool.
  • @smccall3838 in so jealous!! @klirwin82 I don't fit in my fat pants either :( it's seriously depressing!

  • I'm also back into my skinny jeans and actually weight less than pre-pregnancy, I'm 19 days pp. I'm planning on going to my community gym once I have more time to heal from my cs. I think breastfeeding and been so busy with my baby has helped with the weight!
  • I'm 2 weeks pp and I'm almost back into my skinny jeans! I usually have a smoothie for breakfast and light healthy snacks throughout the day because I'm breastfeeding and ALWAYS hungry. Every night we go on a long walk when it's cool..I'm surprised at how quickly I've been able to bounce back! Good luck and remember to be patient with your body, it just performed a miracle by growing your precious baby!
  • 5 weeks post partum, and lost all but 7 pounds so far. I am not breast feeding, so I cut my calorie intake. I eat healthier.. I still have bad food here and there, but for the most part a lot of fruits veggies and water. And some walking.
  • I do exercises with the baby :) she likes to be held so I walk with her and I do squats and even ab workouts with her :) it's a nice way to bond with your baby and also loose weight.
  • I never did lose all the weight from my first pregnancy. I was on weight watchers when I had to quit because I found out I was pregnant again with my twins. I've gained probably at least 60 pounds. So I would say just eat healthy and try to take walks. It took 9-10 months to put on the weight it will take at least that long to take it off. Your body will never be the same but it did perform a little miracle. Some people bounce right back or better but you will always find things that are different after baby not just your weight. :)
  • I am 5 weeks pp - gained 50 lbs and down now 25. I would love to lose 50 lbs and look better than ever! I have accepted this is a process and won't happen overnight for me like it has some of you ladies.
  • I gained about 40 lbs, maybe a little more, and I've lost about 30 lbs in the 4 weeks since baby was born. Now I think the pregnancy weight (baby, fluids, extra blood, etc) is gone and it's actual weight weight that I have left to lose...and losing it is hard! Trying to watch what I eat, can't wait to get cleared for exercise at my post-op visit. Walking around has probably been helpful. Being sleep deprived definitely makes it harder to lose weight (for me anyway). I've found that using the "my fitness pal" ap helps me to see exactly how much I'm eating and helps me make sure I'm getting enough vitamins and not just empty calories.
  • I am in the same boat as many of the other women here. (Who I know sometimes try not to confess their "sins" of weight gain) I gained 70 lbs with my first baby and lost it all in a year. I gained 60 with this baby and expect a similar time frame though he was over 10 lbs so maybe it will be slightly quicker! I am not ashamed or guilty. I did not "eat for two. I have a body, I am not my body.

It's awesome to bounce back quickly and its great that some people can do it but dont make it more of a focus than it needs to be. We have way more important things to worry about right now than skinny jeans. Be gentle with yourselves and give it time.

I gained 100 pounds with my first. And 50 pounds with my second. (I had really bad pre eclampsia first and moderate second) they were both almost 10 pounds. It took me 6 years to get back to pre pregnancy weight. I finally got there and quit smoking and gained 40 pounds. I then found out I was pregnant. And only gained 35 with her. And yes I have lost all but 7 pounds at 5 weeks post partum. So I am completely thrilled! But... I still have a lot more to go to be full pre pregnancy.

3 weeks pp, lost 30 of the 40 gained. Everything is still sore and a little swollen so I'm still loving my maternity shorts!! I think everything changes a little bit with each pregnancy, luckily living in Florida means I can wear my basic sun dresses that have a lot of give in the mid section until I can start running again. I think women need to realize that we're not celebrities that have nannies and meal help and nutritionists, if you don't have a flat belly in two months just realize it's perfectly normal and if you put the work in you can have your body back - it might just have a different timeline than what you were hoping for.
  • With my first, I gained 56 lbs. It didn't take long for the first 40 to come off (maybe a month). But I stagnated at about 15 lb over my prepregnancy weight. When I stopped nursing my son at 14 months & got serious about losing the last few lbs, I found out I was pregnant with this one (had about 8 lbs to go at that point). I definitely found the myfitnesspal app to be helpful as well @lovehorse77! Good accountability! And after spending 2 years eating 300-500 extra calories per day, it was so helpful in re-training my brain in what a normal, non-pregnant, non-nursing diet looks like. I'm definitely planning on using it again! Good job to all you skinny minnies who already lost it all! I'm hoping to join that club in a year or so since I just don't melt off baby weight like you all do :)
  • Also @tasharchibald, check out Diary of a Fit Mommy online. She's got a blog geared toward moms to help them get fit again after baby. She has several programs you can purchase for like $10 or less (at least I think that's what I remember seeing) that look awesome. but she also has motivating & informative articles too. I was looking at her blog the other day and got super pumped to have this baby so I could get started!
  • It took you 9 months to gain. Be easy on yourself.

I've lost over 30 lbs In month from exclusive breastfeeding. I think that by not stressing about the weight it makes it easier to lose it.
  • With my first I gained 32 lbs, breastfed for 8 weeks but I was back to jogging at 4 weeks post c section. Ran a mini marathon 11 weeks post partum and was 5lbs under pre pregnancy weight. This time I gained 28 lbs, 1 weeks pp and have 13 lbs to go but have not been doing any exercising at all except for diastasis recti correction exercises. I can't wait to get back to exercising, I put on work out clothes today and my husband said oh lord, you're itching to go already and today is only day 7! I don't want to exercise just to lose the baby weight, I want to feel like myself and healthy again. I ran until 32 week's during this pregnancy as well. If fitness is important to you, make it a priority!!! It helps having a spouse or partner that is supportive!!
  • Gained 60lbs and 4weeks later lost 45... So only 15 to go... I drink tons of water and just keep busy... I think a lot of my weight loss was due to the fact that I retained soooo much water during pregnancy and blew up and not because I was "eating for two"... So now I'm finally going back to normal...
  • Gained maybe 25lb, gave birth to 9lb baby and now 3 weeks later I have 5-6 lbs to go. Haven't been trying to lose anything and I've been eating a lot of sugary stuff.. I'm pretty sure that exclusive breastfeeding helped a lot. I would say that my body is pretty much the same like it was before. Although .... we will see how my boobs will look like when I'm done BFing.. :-?

@NewMumzy25 you have the best kind of motivation AND you also have proof in your (shrinking) back pocket that you can do since you've seen yourself do it before! Go mama! Having a partner in crime to keep you motivated is the best ... I'm worried my Mr. Fit of a husband is going to be out running me for months - ah well, I can out to-do list his fit butt any day of the week :)
  • @tkduke why thank you :) and I know having him doing it with me will be even better, the bad part well not for him but me will be how quick his metabolism is once he starts working out it won't take long for him to leave me in the dust lol. He is skinny just has a beer gut he wants gone and he wants more energy!

Your hubby seems like he might be the type to help and reassure you all whole running his circles around you till you can give him a run for his money haha! Hopefully he keeps you motivated too :)

    We all got this!!
  • I am 3 weeks pp and I have lost 20 pounds. I still have 17 to go. I was really stressed about this for a couple days but honestly something just "clicked" with me the other day. These first couple weeks are so stressful and tons of work. I want to remember these days with my baby filled with snuggling and napping and visiting all those that love her. I will worry about the weight in a couple months. :) congrats to all you ladies that have lost everything though!!! You guys rock!
  • I'm two weeks PP and gained about 44 pounds and now only have 13 to lose to get back to pre pregnancy weight. I owe it to breastfeeding and lots of water as well! But everybody's diffrent!
  • @desquinones yeah! I agree that the first few weeks (and months) go by so fast, the snuggling is most important : ) I decided not to worry about losing weight until my family found a good routine, my daughter is one month and now I feel ready to start thinking about my diet and exercise and losing the last few pounds.
I'm reinstating toddler dance parties with my 2 year old so that should totally take care of it right? ; )
  • I don't have a toddler, but I am on board with the dance party plan!!

I plan on joining weight watchers since I had gained weight before I got pregnant so I have even more to lose! Bleh! my goal is to lose 70 total, that includes pregnancy and pre pregnancy weight.
  • I gained 50 pounds during pregnancy and have lost 27 over the past three weeks post c-section. I am breastfeeding so I know that's helping. It's just this belly that needs to get in check.
Salads, fruits, water are becoming my besties and I'm going to get a waist trainer to help even things out.
