PUPPPS

Anyone out there ready to rip their skin off?! I have had puppps since 27 weeks. It went away for about 6 weeks and came back with a vengeance after I started my mucus plug. (Gross, gross, more gross!! I know!!) so yesterday my doctor came in the room and looked at me and said "Oh boy, kid! Let me check on something I'll be right back!" He went to schedule me for a more comprehensive consultation about it bc he has never seen such a severe case. He even said his wife had it and he knew how bad it was for her but didn't compare to what he was seeing! So reassuring. So when I consulted with the second doctor today she actually winced and gritted her teeth when she saw my stomach. Again...very reassuring!!

Basically I've tried everything! Dandelion root tea 2x per day and frequent cool showers cleared it up initially but this time it's angry!!!! Dandelion root isn't touching it...nor anything else. The doctors prescribed a double round of a 6 day steroid pack. Basically they will induce me at 39 weeks for a case this severe, so I have just enough time to take the entire course of steroids and pray that I don't just scratch myself to death before they will induce labor.

Let me say that I wanted so badly to avoid both steroids and induction but this is absolutely unbearable!! I tried several natural alternatives prior to using drug therapy, which may or may not work! We all know pregnancy can be miserable at times, add on a full body rash and constant itchiness and natural labor just doesn't seem important anymore. We've discussed how the drugs will effect baby, me, and my breast milk with doctors and the pharmacist to make sure we were making a good decision. My dear, dear husband is just beside himself! He's trying so hard to make me comfortable while dealing with his own first time daddy issues...he's a saint!

If anyone else is suffering from this or has experienced it in the past, I am so sorry! Please join me in complaining...

Re: PUPPPS

  • I have no experience, just wanted to say that I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I hope the drugs provide some relief!

Ditto! I hope you get some relief.

  • I had puppps with my son who's almost 2. I agreed to an induction because I wasn't sleeping and was doing major damage to my skin by scratching. Nothing helped! I tried everything I could get my hands on. DH tried to understand, but didn't get that the itching did not stop. Ever. I wound up having to get a c section for multiple reasons. I can't help but feel guilty that maybe I could have had a vaginal birth if I could have waited. In reality, it probably would have worked out the same way. Now I'm pregnant with a 2nd son and have puppps again. Not nearly as severe. Plus my doctor prescribed a cream for it that does help. I hope you get some relief soon! It made me crazy, but it'll pass. Probably very shortly after delivery. Mine was gone before I left the hospital. Sorry you are going through this. Just keep thinking about the sweet baby that's on the way!
  • I have a "mild" case and am miserable. I can't imagine it any more severe. I may claw my skin off over the next 3 weeks.
  • I had this when I was pregnant with my now 2 year old son. Only mine didn't go away after I gave birth like they promised but got worse! I tried everything natural as well before resorting to all those steroid creams and actual steroid pills.. Which helped but everytime they tried to slowly taper my dosage it would come flaring back! It was so miserable and frustrating! I also got the swollen face associated with steroids and had that for my wedding!! I was starting to worry because of all their concerns for my health of using the steroids what it was doing to my son through my breast milk! Finally I came across a suggestion from a natural health dr to try Niacin vitaminB3!! & it worked!!!! Pupps rash gone forever!!! It's a natural vitamin used to flush your system! I started with a 250mg tablet the Solgar brand-- I started with one tablet; which makes you really hot and splotchy for maybe 30 mins the first time.. Which is it's way of flushing your system.. Then the next day I also just took one, 250mg tablet and every day after that the hot flash/ red splotchy-ness during the flush would get less intense and be shorter in duration. I continued this until I could take a tablet and have NO reaction. At this point the insane pupps rash that was all over my body was gone & never came back. Maybe a week total in time, but again it was alllll over me. I really hope this helps because I know how incredibly miserable you are right now & hope you find relief soon!!!!!
  • FTM and I got it at 37 wks. SO thankful i got it this late in the game because honestly it's the most miserable experience ever! If I had a mortal enemy I would wish this shit on them.

Ive been doing the pine tar soap with cold showers and that seems to help a little, have drank my weight in v8 juice and not really sure if thats doing anything but hey at least its healthy right? Yesterday I picked up some lavender oil that I added to coconut oil and also picked up some some dandelion root. Hopefully the dandelion will do something for me in the next day or two or my LO will do mom a favor and just come out PLEASE! (I'm due tomorrow) Until then I'm right there with you
  • I use Niacin when I was a teenager for acne and I just said to my husband I bet it would work! Probably not good during pregnancy bc I think it elevates your heart rate. Ugh at this point I feel like I need to be sedated!
  • sedation would be amazing lol
