you guys...mucus plug?

Lately I've been having a lot of mucus discharge this week. Ill be 31 weeks on Friday and it seems too early for it to be my mucus plug passing but I'm just not sure. I know that it doesn't mean I'm going to pop out the baby tomorrow but I guess I should mention it tomorrow when I go in for my non stress test. It's getting closer and closer and I'm nervous!

    Mucous-like discharge is normal during the 3rd trimester! As long as it isn't bloody or thick/solid (like an actual plug) then you're probably just fine! Definitely mention it though :) my friend said when she lost hers, it looked like a raw chicken breast. So gross, but obviously normal lol!

    I always say it looks like scraps from the butcher shop. You can lose pieces without it being an issue, it should just be clear. It regenerates. I notice i lose bits of i hold my pee and have a forceful trip to the bathroom. Totally okay and normal.

    @leighann1 honestly I know the nurse was there and I remember her doing some massage prior to pushing but I couldn't tell you what she did while I pushed (I didn't want a mirror as I'm one to close my eyes during intense pain anyway). I know she was super helpful and supportive after too but during I was most focused on getting baby out to make the pain stop.

    Haha just hope yours don't come out in one big blob !! With my first I used the bathroom and wiped and didn't see anything, I stood up and realized something that looked like a ball of jelly fell into my pant leg, it had blood in it. My mother was in SHOCK she goes what in the hell is that. She had 3 kids and all of her mucus plugs slowly came out and she never noticed them.

    So I consider myself to be a mature adult who uses proper terms for bodily functions and anatomy. But mucus plug turns my stomach every time. I'm discovering there are a lot of things about pregnancy and labor that do that, though. 

    And since the topic of pooping came up! Our childbirth instructor (L&D nurse, and mother of 6), addressed that the other night. Apparently one of the L&D nurses' jobs is to hold a wash cloth to your perineum during labor, and she says the nurse will just quietly wipe it away. No one even knows. And it might not happen much, if at all, because early labor "cleans you out" quite well, she says. 

    I think I feel equal parts relief at knowing I probably won't take a huge dump on the bed, and a bit of horror knowing I will have a nurse dedicated to my perineum for the duration of pushing. I don't envy her job.

    Early labor cleaned me out ! I had the runs a few hours prior to my water breaking, and I didn't realize what was happening until my water broke. But the nurse does hold a cloth near your perineum during labor just incase. They also don't announce "it's poop".

    Last week I had a large blob of mucus in my underwear and freaked out that it was my mucus plug. I panicked and my husband made me call the on-call doctor (because of course it was in the evening).
    She said as long as it does not have any pink, red, or brown in it, it is probably just discharge. She asked if I was leaking any fluid (she said it would be gushing out or at least trickling down my leg) or if I had any itching or burning (sign of infection). I had none of that so it must of been discharge. Or I guess it could have been a piece of the plug and it regrew. But either way, I didn't have any problems (or any more like that) since. It's always good to ask when you are concerned though....helps to have peace of mind!

    Thanks for that - once we're past the glucose testing and the baby showers, this is the one last topic I could think of that could get too much discussion for our own good.  Especially if pictures become involved.  Yarf.

    Noooooo... That doesn't really happen. Please tell me people don't actually do this. My faith in humanity's basic common sense and decency is already dwindling. This might push it off a cliff.
