Monthly pictures and milestones

silly question - I take a monthly picture each month on the day my daughter was born. I also write down how much she weighs and some things she likes, etc. I don't even know if this question will make sense, but when do you record milestones? For the previous month or the upcoming month? For example, I take her 2 month picture when she's about 8 weeks. I wrote all of her milestones from previous month. Later in the month she rolls over at 10 weeks. So she's technically 2 months when she rolls over but then do I record it when I take her 3 month picture? Seems so simple but I'm confused.

Re: Monthly pictures and milestones

  • I always do milestones from the previous month so between 1 and 2 months I record it under 2 months. If you were going by years and you are 12 years old, you would say you are in your 13th year so when LO is 2 months old, They are in their 3rd month. Does that make sense?

I also take his monthly pictures on the 13th of every month instead of going by weeks; it's just easier for me!

  • Agreed, I do all the milestones she has completed at the end of the month.

I think I'm tracking with you but aren't certain. So our babies were born in May. June is their second month of life but they are only 1 month old in June. In June when you take picture you record milestones from May, right?

Or maybe I'm not tracking and it's the opposite way. So confusing yet should be so simple. :) Say baby was born May 1 and on June 1 turns 1 month. On June 15 baby rolls over. Would that be recorded as a 1 month milestone or 2 month milestone?
  • In terms of DS's baby book I will probably record milestones based on weeks. That way you have a more accurate timeframe. 13 weeks is very specific compared to 3 months. I have a calendar that I write on daily anything that happened. Then I can mark down special events in the baby book.

For his monthly picture I lay him beside an oversized calendar. I write milestones on the calendar (ie. First wedding, rolled over, laughed, first trip to grandmas, etc). So I mark down every milestone or exciting event that has happened in the last month. It's a cool picture then to show is size comparison but also his accomplishments that month.

I had this same issue with my baby book. It confused the crap out of me since I was doing everything way late and things change so much. I would record how you are doing, try to stay on top of it though....its amazing how quick you forget things. I just updated my firsts baby book and It asked about when each tooth came in and I have no idea which one came in when and I know that doesn't make me a bad parent but my type A personality hates me right now!!! So now I am trying to do it on a weekly basis but it is so hard to keep up with...specially when I go back to work.

I've been keeping a note on my phone with everything and the dates. That helps because I always have my phone with me and can write anything down. It is overwhelming to go back through it all, which is why I got so confused. And it's only been 12 weeks! Maybe keeping something in your phone will help now you are back to work?
