Sex in First Trimester?

Hi Everyone!
6 weeks pregnant today. Had a miscarriage a little over a year ago. I'm nervous and scared about anything I do or eat, which I know is normal.

Is sex ok during the first trimester? I have read that there are no associations with sex and miscarriage but I'm still so nervous. Thoughts?

Re: Sex in First Trimester?

  • If you have the energy and won't puke on your partner then go for it ;)

Spotting and mild cramping are normal after intercourse, just FYI.

  • I'm nervous too. DH and I did the deed today and all was well, but it took a considerable amount of warming up because last time I was in an incredible amount of pain afterwards. Apparently this is common in the first trimester after an orgasm because your growing uterus contracts, something you wouldn't normally feel otherwise. Its scary! I think your best bet is to take it slow and see how you feel, don't do anything you're not comfortable with.

  • I don't want to scare you, but we don't do it. I'm too scared, even just an externally stimulated orgasm caused bleeding a few weeks ago. Our first miscarriage, I started spotting right after sex and thought okay, apparently this is normal after reading up on it. Then spotting went to full blown bleeding with clots and cramps. Now, we are so freaking scared but OMG! I AM SO HORNY! But a lot of people continue to have sex just fine, I had a friend that wore her poor husband out, she just couldn't get enough.

  • If you've had previous miscarriages or other risks your doctor may suggest waiting until 2nd trimester. If you have any concerns you should ask your doctor.
  • We are like rabbits..it takes away nausea and it's the best I feel all day. Just have to get in the mood or not be sleeping. I highly recommend and most often you will be highly rewarded. And yes, contractions after are normal and will continue throughout pregnancy. It does catch you off guard a lot.
