hair die + 7 weeks

FTM here and i with out even thinking died my hair today im 7.2 weeks and im going crazy of the possibility of having a MC. I didnt read the box or what chemicals are in it. My mom just asked if i wanted to color my hair along with her and i agreed. Should I be worried ?
P.S. my mom didnt know i was knocked up till about an hour ago... Yikes!

Re: hair die + 7 weeks

  • There isn't any facts that something is going to happen for sure, just staying away from the chemicals are the best way that's why women are trying to do. But don't panic and don't do it again till you are at 12 weeks.

  • not the most perfect but also not the most catastrophic... statistically you will be fine

  • When I saw my doctor for my 8 week appointment she said it was fine to dye my hair and no need to wait until 12 weeks.  She herself is pregnant and said she dyed her hair at 6 weeks.  I just went over the weekend and got mine done - my whites were out of control!  Luckily I had the option for them to use one with out ammonia so it is even a bit safer.  I'm not worried and likely you have nothing to worry about either.  However, if you do your own hair, make sure you do it in a well-ventilated place and use gloves to minimize exposing the chemicals to additional skin/your hands.

  • Definitely asking my midwife about this.  My roots are out of control.  Of course I dye my hair for the first time in 7 years and then weeks later I find out I'm pregnant and feeling stuck with awesome roots.

  • My doctor also said it was fine. She said it would be a concern if you were a hairdresser and exposed to it daily.
  • I'm a stylist. Sure years ago in the age of teased bangs there were really strong amonia and other harsh chemicals. Now with earth conscious minds and technology there are some really safe professional hair colors. I can't say what's in those box jobs but you could find an Aveda salon which is organiclly derived and contains little to no amonia.

  • I was told to wait until after the 1st trimester.
  • Don't worry about it! I asked my doctor today, and she said that hair dye is ok. The hair dye from the 50s is not, but I am guessing you havn't stored hair dye from back then to use now, so you'll be ok! ;)

  • You'll be fine! My hairdresser worked during both of her pregnancies and had no problem. I'm 8w tomorrow and just had mine done two weeks ago. There are different beliefs but it hasn't been proven to be the cause of a MC
  • Thank you all for replying and easing the tention. ive been so worried im terrified of loosing my baby. I love kids and babies i have sooooo many brothers and sisters and nieces and nefues and their all the world to me and i now have the chance of having my own so i dont want to mess things up.
  • So sort of related... I have always had long hair but in the last few months got sick of it getting thinner and thinner (and looking horrid) and took the big chop

Now to save money since I am not doing highlights but an all over colour I was going to do it at home... previous attempts have left me with dye everywhere including the ceiling and walls.... is it much eaiser to do on your own at home with short hair?  Or am I just incompetent?

  • Dyed mine today. Well ventilated. Used Garnier because it has fruit oil in it! I leave for vacation in 9 days and it was 3 different colors
