3rd+ timers: how did you survive??

How did you survive the first trimester while taking care of other children? All I want to do is nap, but my 21 month old has other ideas. I know ms is coming soon, I can feel it! Any tips? We are states away from other family, so no outside help :(

  • I gated off the den, turned on the tele, and sleepervised a lot in first trimester.

  • I'm pregnant with #4 and I'm just kind of going through the motions right now. It's survival mode around here. I second the "sleepervising" that oceanchild mentioned.

  • This will be my third and I also I don't have family near by so as guilty as I feel sometimes I let them watch tv and play electronics not the best but I know I'll have more energy in second trimester. Most times they will sit and play with toys while watching tv just take it easy and don't let the guilt get to you.

This is my third, and I have a 3  and 1 year old. I work full time as of now, so I'm not sure if that's a blessing or a curse! On one hand, I think sometimes it's easier to sit at my desk feeling like crap rather than being at home chasing after them....but on the other, I have to wake up super early every morning and deal with m/s and scrambling to get everyone ready for the day before I leave. Luckily DH helps a lot in that area.

  • Definitely survival mode with #4 @MommaDall! I foresee lots of cereal/sandwiches/fro'za for din the next 2ish months …

  • I agree-the tv can be your friend during the first trimester as well as after the baby's born! I also say ANY chance you have to sleep-take it-who cares what the house looks like, get some rest!
  • I am 8 weeks with the second. My first is 10 months old and I feel so terrible because he's so little and needs all my love and attention right now. I'm so sick right now I don't know how I make it through the day and there's no one to help us. Daddy is at work all day but I just can't shake the guilt for my 10 month old
  • Some days you're literally just trying to make it to bed time. This is #4 and luckily I'm off for summer and have been able to sleep and rest. I'm a teacher. But all that changes in about two weeks and I'm going to have a rude awakening!!! Just rest as much as you can and give yourself a break.
  • Netflix is my BFF... even now.
Obviously I don't let it take over, but it totally helps. You can claim it as s chance to sit back and snuggle, but also to relax because pregnancy always bogged me down more than giving all my neighbors my wifi password and then trying to play minecraft.
You can plan-ahead for breakfasts with easy stuff like frozen waffles, breakfast bowls, cereal... and keep something quick to raise your blood sugar when you first get up (like Gatorade) since low blood sugar will emphasize MS, and maybe some almonds as a protein to maintain it. It may curb it slightly, at least long enough to tend to other chillens' lol

Outside of that... It was a whole lot of "hmmm... kids are napping... I should was those disheZzzzzz...."
(I installed interior key-locking locks to all the doors to outside, no worries about a tiny escapee if you nap slightly longer.)

I feel your mommy guilt @mamacastro !! I was way too nauseous to even be touched today and all DS wanted was to snuggle!! I cried for a good ten minutes about it! I know it's rough!

Large age gaps between my kids, lol. Obviously not the solution you're looking for, but my 7 yo and 4 yo are much easier to benignly ignore for the first few weeks.

That, and just letting go of everything that doesn't really matter. Is everyone fed and still alive at the end of the day? Then you're doing great. Everything else can wait for when you return to humanity.
  • I'm a third timer! I have two daughters 7 and 5. I'm only 5 weeks so it hasn't been to bad so far.

    All of that, exactly.
