Infertility

Back to back Ivf cycles?

I started my first IVF cycle this month with priming due to DOR. My retrieval was on Monday, 11 eggs, 9 which were ICSI'd, 6 which fertilized normally and we are currently in the waiting period to see if any make it to the 5 day embryo stage. It was determined that we could not do a fresh transfer because my progesterone was too high. The plan now is to keep me on progesterone until Sunday, get my period Monday, start stims next Thursday to hopefully get in another retrieval around August 18th or 19th. I've been trying to find info on back to back retrievals and haven't found much. Have any of you had a similar protocol? I Was surprised that the dr would recommend another retrieval before even attempting a transfer (perhaps bc he thinks it is unlikely that any of the 6 will make it all the way to freezing and survive thawing) I have never been pregnant, have been trying for years, and was so eager to finally have a decent shot of becoming pregnant and now it looks like I'll have to wait months before the first FET.

Re: Back to back Ivf cycles?

  • Not to sure about back to back cycles, I went through a cycle in May and we skipped June because my RE was afraid my ovaries wouldn't respond as well back to back so we are now on day 6 of stims for this cycle.  Hope all goes well for you!

  • not to sure about back to back cycles I just wanted to wish you good luck.  Frozen transfers have a higher success rate so maybe this will work for you having a couple embryos banked.

  • Thanks for the info and encouragement. I get an update on my embryos tomorrow and am kind of dreading the phone call. It's nice to know that you can even do 4 back to back transfers! I thought my ER was doing something strange but I guess not:)

    Good luck !!
  • I did 4 cycles back to back, within 6 months so yeah. Two of those cycles didn't count . I ovulated before retrieval once for example. A frozen transfer worked for me. If I have to do if again I will opt for a frozen transfer no matter what. From what I have seen they are more successful. Best wishes to you miss :)
