Minivan owners ? About car seat placement

Im trying to figure out the safest spot for the car seat. I know the middle is usually the best, but I wanted to get opinions. I'm trying to figure out if I move DD to the back and keep DS in one of the captains chairs if I should put the baby in the middle seat next to him. Ideally that's what I'd like to do bc it makes it easier for DD to get into the back and also guests if we have any kids or family visit. But is it safe to put a car seat in the middle without the other captains chair next to it? I haven't tried it out yet but I'm assuming it'll fit snug. I'm just concerned about lack of a seat next to it. If I don't do that then I'd put the carseat in the other captains chair w the middle seat open for DD to get into the back. While writing this I just realized that regardless the carseat will be missing a seat next to it no matter what ha! Sooooo maybe middle IS the best answer.

I feel like I'm just overthinking this. How are your seats configured?

Re: Minivan owners ? About car seat placement

  • We are purchasing a van any day.. For three kids.. Our's will have a bench in the back and two caption seats in the middle. We plan to take out one captain and put baby in the other. The other two kids (4 and 2) will go in their car seats on the back on the bench seat. Both of them can buckle their car seats at this point, it's just a matter of double checking them to make sure they are tight and actually snapped in.

  • My 3 yr old is FFing in the 3rd row. 2yr old
Is RFing in 3rd row. Baby will go in the 2nd row behind the passenger seat. I removed the seat behind the driver so I can get to the 3rd row easier. This stills leaves 2 seats open in the back for family.

  • I'm in Canada so the rules are a bit different. Due to these restrictions DD1 will be FF middle of the 3rd row. DD2 is FF 2nd row captain seat behind driver. Baby will be passenger side 3rd row beside DD1. I took the passenger side captain seat out so we can all load/unload from one side and there will be room for stroller and groceries.
  • I'm doing the same as @jesselayne8 . I have both twins in the back rear facing (thank goodness for 2 sets of latches back there). I have the new LO in the captain chair behind passenger. We actually have 3 separate seats across the middle so right now the other 2 are out for more room to load but we may put the middle jump seat back in so I can ride next to LO if I need to.

  • I hadn't even considered both kids sitting in the back. DS is almost 3 but doesn't buckle himself. Maybe I should start testing it out though bc it would be nice to free up a seat in the 2nd row. We have 3 seats in second row too and I hadnt even thought about ME needing to be by the baby. Thank you!

  • I would love to do 3 across and I have 3 sets of latches in the 2nd row but DS can't keep his feet to himself and can't be trusted next to a new born.
