August 2015 Moms

Discouraged.

I am Due August 8th and had my 38 week check up yesterday. And there is absolutely nothing happening. I was super bummed! I just don't want to wind up being induced like I had to with my first. Hubby and I are active daily. Any other way that might kickstart things into gear??

Re: Discouraged.

  • I've read nipple stimulation works. My friend is a doula and says "you want to get that baby moving? Strap on a breast pump!" I'm only 36 weeks tho so I have no first hand experience, ask your doctor :)

  • Yeah--you can dialate out of no where.  I went from tight and closed at 37 weeks to 1cm and very very soft at 38 weeks.  I still don't care too much since I could stay where I am for ages now.  (I will think thought that I probably dialated more since my mucus plug fell out--which I will not share a picture of ;))

  • I'm in the SAME boat. I'm 39 weeks.
  • You could go into labor tonight for all you know. Good luck!

  • Breast pump got some contractions going during my last pregnancy. I would wait until 39 or 39.5wks to start though.

  • You still have two weeks.

You can go from 0 to 5cm in a matter of hours.

  • Right there with you.. I'm also due on the 8th and not at all dilated last week.  I have my 38 week check-up tomorrow - hopefully I'll bit a little further along!  I've also had no contractions or other signs... it's so difficult to be patient!

I didn't dilate or anything until the day of DD1's birth. She was born at 40w1d. You've time still!
  • Curious about the nipple stimulation. Everything that I've read says that it could possibly help to kick start labor, but the contractions that result can be wicked furious and very strong. I've read this can lead to increased stress on the baby and to consult with your doctor or midwife before trying it. Any experience with this ladies? TMI alert, but the only way I can have an orgasm is if my husband stimulates my nipples while stimulating my clit and I've been hesitant to even try lately because of what I've heard/read about contractions that result from nipple stimulation.
  • I wasn't necessarily expecting anything to be going on, but at my 36w4d appt yesterday, baby was high, cervix was long and completely closed up. I'm a 3rd time mom who walks two hours a day and has 3 cups of red raspberry leaf tea everyday.

I intentionally got my next weekly appt out as far as I could, to hopefully allow myself to make some progress.. It'll be my 38 week appt.

And yes... I'm ok with baby staying in as long as possible.. I'm just trying to do all I can to make my body as ready as possible as I'm attempting a VBAC.

  • This is exactly why I haven't been getting checked. I'm a control freak by nature and I know I'll really get in my own head about whatever they tell me. I'm just trying to trust that my body will do what it needs to and it's not in my control.
Even my OB made it a point to tell me that he doesn't care how strong any contractions are, if you aren't dilating, then you aren't in labor.
