Baby Names

First name Larken (boy)

What are your opinions on Larken? My father-in-laws name is Larry, and my Fathers name is Kenneth, so we tried to combine them to honor our fathers. I'm fine using it as the middle name, but my husband would like it as the first name. Also, any first name suggestions to go with Larken? Our favorite so far is Nolan Larken. Thanks!!!

Re: First name Larken (boy)

  • I believe Larkin is the proper spelling.

I like Nolan Larkin and much prefer it as a middle name. I don't think many names are going to flow perfectly though.

    Elliott Larkin
    Micah Larkin
    Owen larkin
    Graham Larkin
    Marshall Larkin
    Caleb Larkin
    Trent Larkin
    Jude Larkin
    Calvin Larkin
    Bruce Larkin
    Edward Larkin
    Matthew Larkin
    Ryan Larkin

  • Awful. Smoosh names are never a good idea. They just look made up and trendy. Nolan is okay. Nolan Kenneth would be great.

Larkin is better than Larken but still not a great name...smoosh names rarely are. I'd definitely keep it as a middle name.

    Going off of Nolan:

    Noah Larkin
    Gabriel Larkin
    Caleb Larkin
    Wyatt Larkin
    Zachary Larkin
    Blake Larkin
    Chase Larkin
    Micah Larkin
    Asher Larkin
    Miles Larkin
    Bryce Larkin
    Patrick Larkin
    Wesley Larkin
    Ezra Larkin
    Bennett Larkin
    Seth Larkin
    Spencer Larkin
    Joshua Larkin
    Jonah Larkin
    Joseph Larkin
    Rhys Larkin
    Jonas Larkin
  • I agree about smoosh names. I would use it as a middle name. (Really, I would just use one dad's name and save the next for future kids.)

I would avoid a fn ending in n.
    Grant
    Isaac
    Elijah
    Reid
    Micah
    Samuel
    Cade
    Chase
    Garrett
  • I like the sentiment, but it's not a great name imo.

  • Kenneth would be a great MN but if you don't want to use one and not the other, just use a new name that you love. Larken is bad.

  • I think it sounds terrible.

  • Not good. Why not just use both their names as first and mn? I'm assuming Larry is not his given name...
  • It's not horrible. I do prefer the spelling with the "in"
  • I personally like the idea. I'd use it as a mm. I like that it has meaning.
  • I would definitely side eye a Larken. No matter the meaning. It's very bad. I agree with suggestion of Nolan Kenneth.

  • Larkin is pretty bad but I totally love the idea of honoring both dads. Do they have middle names you would prefer? I'd suggest Kenneth Lawrence but that doesn't have good flow to me.

    Middle name.... Sounds ugly :l
  • I'd smoosh them differently and go with Larreth! Or what about Kenlar? Why not! They make just as much sense!

  • I like it. And, since half of the name is in honor of "Kenneth" I think it makes sense to have it spelled "Larken" unless you're find with just the "ken" sound.

Love Nolan, lose the Larken. I went to high school with a Laken (female) but I don't even know if that's a legit name or if it's suppose to be masculine or feminine.
  • I asked my husband what he thought and he suggested "Kellar" if you're attached to the combined names. The Ke from "Kenneth" and the lar from "Larry".
  • Another legit combo is Kerry, an actual real unisex name.

    Excellent suggestion!

  • I think that Larkin is mostly a girls name, I would middle name it if you are going to use it. I think it is pretty bad for a girl or a boy. If you want to smooth a name....have you thought of Kerry? It is a real name.
  • I knew a guy named Christopher Larkin (Larkin was a family name), so Larkin/Larken doesn't sound strange to me :)
