So from a previous post I stated that I will be getting induced on 8/4 (my original due date was 8/11)
Any advice on how to mentally and physically prepare myself for this ?
I'm honestly starting to get really nervous the more I think about it (I'm trying not too think so much on it) . Although I am excited it's overwhelming In a way. Lol
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Any advice from mommas who been induced?
I was past my due date and not dilated at all, so I was induced with my first. I didn't have to check into the hospital until 5PM, and my nephew had a snow day off from school so I picked him up and we hung out all day. It was a great distraction.
My goal had been to go med free, and I made from 7PM (when my water broke due to the Cervadil and my labor started on it's own- without Pitocin) until about 2PM the next day before the doctor told me that my body was in too much pain to relax and dilate. I got the epidural and it was beautiful. I even fell asleep after that. I never dilated past a 3 and ended up having a cesarean. Total labor time: 29 hours (ish- I was in labor when I checked in but not contracting very hard and didn't even really realize it).
It sounds awful. It wasn't much fun. BUT it's just a memory and a story now. I have an amazing little girl that spent 15 minutes last night kissing me (she's about 18 months, so it's kind of just putting her mouth on my face) and I can't imagine my life without her. 29 hours of horribleness and I wouldn't trade a singe second of it simply because of the amazing result. I can't tell you to not be nervous, but I can tell you that before you know it, it will simply be a memory. Once our LOs are here, time will fly and the next thing we know, we will be toting toddlers around and planning birthday parties.
Good luck with everything!
My first was induced because he was late and they thought big. You had the advantage of knowing when you'll head in. There's no last minute packing or uncomfortable car ride! My biggest piece of advice is to do everything you can to sleep the night before. Feedings are every 3 hours after they are born which doesn't leave time to sleep.
My Dr broke my water first to see of that would start anything. From that point on you are basically leaking. I did need pitocin to start contracting. Walking and the yoga ball were what I was planning on using to labor, but there was no way I was walking around leaving a gooey trail behind me and down my legs! Yuck.
There's no prize for doing med free, and IMO an epidural is worth its weight in gold.
Lastly, if they do give you pitocin, know that it and the bags of fluid tend to make you swell so you may be very, very swollen for a while after. Like tree trunks for calves/feet. I found flip flops the best shows for going home.
Good luck!!
