Sharp, sudden, intense pain in lower abdomen

35 weeks pregnant here, and I have been getting these intense sharp pains in my lower abdomen/ above my pelvic area. I only get them if I'm walking and it makes me stop in my tracks because they're so sudden and a bit painful. it doesn't last that long but they are painful. Better way to describe it would be as if that area is being pulled sharply with a string from the inside. Anyone else feeling this too?

Re: Sharp, sudden, intense pain in lower abdomen

  • Yes! More frequent lately too. I'm 33 weeks. No idea what it is but is better when I'm laying down.

  • Could it be Braxton hicks? If you are worried call your doctor's. Good luck!
  • I have been having the same type of pain! My doctor didn't seem too concerned and said it was most likely from the baby's head moving down into my pelvis and they pains would continue to get stronger. Mine are not consistent though, just here and there. I would call the doc if you don't have an appt soon
  • I was having pains like that, my midwife said it could be because I may have been dehydrated - so maybe try drinking a couple of big glasses of water?
  • I've been getting those the last couple days. Pretty sure they are Braxton hicks. Dr said it's common to feel them more after physical activity or even just walking upstairs and to expect more of them as you get closer to delivery.
  • Add me to the list! It hurts so intensely, but is really brief. Comes only if I'm standing or walking. From what I have researched, it is likely due to baby's positioning. Moving lower and against your cervix makes for some uncomfortable moments. I would definitely ask your DR if it continues/gets worse.
  • I am 32 weeks and feel sharp pain in that area as well. I talked to my midwife yesterday and she said that it was most likely because my ligaments were stretching (again).
  • I literally had this at 4am. It was alot more intense than previous round ligament pain. But my bladder was full and I was lying down and when I tried to get up is when it hurt enough to gasp. I did the ol Google and it said it was ligament pain
  • I'm having them (34 weeks) and had them near my due date with my last. My doc says it's likely babies head bumping cervix. I have to stop and bend over it's so sharp. No fun!
  • This is EXACTLY what's happening to me too!! I'm 32 weeks. I've noticed it only when I go for walks, very sharp sudden pain in my lower right abdomen!
