Coconut oil instead of Diaper rash ointment

So I switched from Burts Bees ointment to Aquaphor when I found my baby had soreness on her bottom. But now my doula is telling me to use Coconut oil only. Has anyone used coconut oil as a replacement for diaper rash ointments like Aquaphor and Desitin?

Re: Coconut oil instead of Diaper rash ointment

  • Absolutely! It's the only thing I've been using. Works very well. I also use this all over DD's body instead of using a moisturizer-- it's all natural so if it ends up in her mouth the midwives said it's much safer then any other cream because it's natural.

  • Yeah good point. We use coconut oil for cooking. Maybe I'll have my husband get another tub for baby.
  • I always use Coconut oil for my DD's diaper rash as it is natural. It works well and makes her skin smooth and shiny. Always better to use natural ones than any other creams.
  • LOVE coconut oil for their sensitive skins! Perfect moisturizer. And super safe, too!

Store it in the fridge and it'll become solid again.
  • My LO has a bad case of diaper rash, I finally started on coconut oil tonight after trying two different creams and neither working..praying for the best..his poor bottom is so red :(
  • Coconut oil is great, it cleared up my baby's eczema as well!
  • According to my lactation consultant, it's also a wonderful nipple cream for breastfeeding mamas. It soothes well and it's safe for baby!
  • Yes to pp.. I was told to not use lanolin bcuz it clogs the pores in the nipples. So i switched to coconut oil. :-)
  • YES! Coconut oil... I was using Babyganics at first, ran out, and improvised with coconut oil - now that's all I use. Fantastic results, by the next diaper change.

Do what you feel is best, but I definitely recommend coconut oil. ;)

Oh! I didn't know that about lanolin… I will have to try coconut oil.
  • Coconut oil is the wonder food.. eat it on toast, cook with it, use it on hair and skin, remove makeup with it and please use it on baby's bum... lol. My baby girl had raw diaper rash up until 4 months old. I used coconut oil. I did make sure to let her bottom air out with the oil on it until dry before putting on a new diaper. It worked great on her dry skin too. Her rashes stopped completely when I stopped drinking cows milk and eating ice cream. Goats milk, cheese and yogurt have not caused a rash.. just something to consider.
