Vaccines

My 2 month old went today for his appointment and vaccines as recommended.... Cried as expected at the doctors and once in the car was fine.... Few hours past and all he does is crying terrible, except when eating and sleeping....of course. Anyone else experience this and know what helps console baby??

Re: Vaccines

  • Yeah my LO was a little out of sorts til the next day. Did the pediatrician instruct you to use infant tylenol? That's always an option.

  • My baby girl for her shots yesterday. She was fine. Cried when she got them and then settled down. Get her home 5 hours later she woke herself up screaming bloody murder. We couldn't do anything to help her. She strained so hard her nose started bleeding. Called the pediatrician and they said that was normal. We gave her some Tylenol and about half hour later she settled down. We ended up giving her another dose throughout the night. She didn't sleep much all night. But today she has done nothing but sleep. I have just cried. To hear her in so much pain broke my husband and I's hearts.
  • We had no reactions ambit in so are it to hear about your Lo! I agree - try children's Tylenol - I've heard it works wonders
  • My lo got her shots today as well and won't stop crying unless she is on my boob.. my pediatrician told me not to use tylenol unless she spiked a fever of 102 or higher because it could reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine since it inhibits the immune reaponse.. anybody else told this? I would like to give her a dose.. she seems so uncomfortable.
  • @PSMITH1286 I can't believe your LO got a nose bleed! That would freak me out! But if your doctor said it was normal then I guess you have to believe them!

When DS got his shots he was really fussy all evening, nothing to dramatic but really out of character. We gave him Tylenol and it seemed to help.
  • I had bought baby Tylenol as well since vaccines were today too but our pediatrician advised me not to give Tylenol. He said babies do fine without it and not to give it unless it's super super unbearable. He then told me that there was a study that was linking the Tylenol to asthma. My first son I always gave Tylenol right after his vaccines but I'm not going to this time with LO and follow doctors orders and see how he does.

This is almost exactly how it was for us. Cried at the docs, but then fed and was fine. Once we were home he was fine until about 5 hours later and was inconsolable and crying harder than I've ever heard. The infant Tylenol worked wonders and calmed him right down. He slept a lot that day/night, and was fine the next day. I was a total mess and was crying right alongside him.

  • I gave my DD some Tylenol and it helped a lot. She slept a lot for a day or two - not sure if it was due to the shots or the Tylenol, or a combination. Poor babies!

I know everyone is using tylenol but be careful. A)the goal is for the LOs body to create antibodies to fight against these illnesses..you actually decrease the amount created when you do that and B) it may hide a reaction that you need to know about. You really should only use it if a fever begins. I know it sucks when they cry but just hold them and nuture them..feed them all day if you must and it will pass.
  • @hollybear4 it totally freaked is out. I didn't feel a nosebleed was normal. But like you said we have to trust our pediatrician. It's hard at time though.
