food allergy??

so pedi thinks LO has a food allergy and suggested that I stop eating nuts and eggs, however LO still has a rash and now has hives. I'm thinking of doing the elimination diet but not sure how it works. Has anyone done it? What did you eat? How long do you go through each stage? How long do you have to go before introducing the first food? Which food should you introduce first? LO is 5 months and we gave been dealing with a rash since he was 2 months. I'm frustrated and upset that this is still going in and we don't know what is causing it so I'm taking matters into my own hands...we are also getting a new pediatrician. Any advice would be great!!! I've also eliminated nuts and eggs for like 3 weeks and today I decided to eliminate dairy. Thanks!!!

Re: food allergy??

  • I had this issue when BF'ing my first. It was so exhausting bc he was in so much pain and I had no idea he had allergies until he was around 8 weeks old. Turned out he had egg, dairy, soy and peanut allergies. He had to be on hypoallergenic formula until he was a year, then we started introducing dairy products (overseen by an allergist of course) but he still is unable to tolerate whole milk at 18 months. I'd recommend seeing an allergist to get headed in the right direction. I went from having a screaming crying baby all day every day (and myself crying) to a happy baby once we switched to the nutramigen. Best of luck, I know it's tough. I was so disappointed in not being able to BF but having a happy baby was more importsnt. I now have a 5 day old and am praying I xan BF.
