Pillows??

Just wondering if anyone has started using body pillows or such while sleeping and what type of pillow you're using or will use and why.
I'd like to just get a regular body pillow and did a search of pregnancy pillows online and there's so many options! It's just pillows, why are there so many options for a basic need?

Re: Pillows??

  • I sleep with a million pillows when pregnant. I have just a regular body pillow from target that I usually hug and put between my knees and then I have a pretty firm pillow that lays on the bed behind me for back support plus a couple pillows for my head.
With my first baby when I got bigger and more uncomfortable and started waking up several times a night I would usually switch to the couch and there I would have pillows stacked up so I could sleep half sitting up because it was more comfortable than side sleeping for me.
I would say see if a friend has a pregnancy pillow/snoogle you could borrow and try before you spend $60 on one and if not start with a basic body pillow and see how you do. It's only ~$15 so better to spend that than $60+ and realize it doesn't work for you. My friend bought the pregnancy one first and ended up liking the regular body pillow better.

  • I've been propping myself up with two pillows because as soon as I lay flat I either can't breath well or have horrible heartburn. It's now starting to get hard to get comfy laying on my sides so I put a pillow between my knees and that helps:) I think a body pillow seems good but I don't really want it taking up the entire bed...
  • I had to start sleeping sitting almost upright near the latter part of my first pregnancy. No amount of pillows helped that. It was the couch a lot of the time for me. Other than that, I used 2-3 regular pillows for my head and one between my legs.

  • I always sleep with a body pillow so I'm going to continue to use that. If I get uncomfortable I might switch to the snoogle. We are getting a king size bed in August (yay for family having things in storage!!) so if I do get one it will be after that.
  • I sleep with like 8 pillows all surrounding me and cradling me like a birds nest LOL. When hubby was home I cuddled him and it was the best. Use your SO as your own personal body pillow!
  • I only sleep with my Snoogle and I love that thing.

  • I get too hot with the body pillows. I just have a pregnancy wedge. I sometimes stick it between my knees, but as the belly gets heavier, I use it to prop my tummy up.
  • My DH bought me a snoogle 2 days ago and I love it!
  • I use my BF for a pillow. He's a cuddle monster so it's like he instictly knows how to shift into a comfy position and luckily he doesn't get too upset when I wake him up wihile I'm adjusting myself 100 times a night.

The only downside is I wake up with him to get his things together for work and make sure he get up on time but when he leaves to go to work I can't get back to sleep for hours. No matter how I stack or hug my blanket and pillows it's not the same. I just have to wait until I pass out. I can't wait for his day off so I can sleep in comfortably but do feel fortunate to have a guy in my life that works his tail off to ensure that I don't have to but accepts that I want to and will hopefully be heading back to work in a couple weeks. Just in time for my 20wk mark. At least the MS has subsided...knock on wood...

I've considered a body pillow but I BF pillow spoiled lolz.
  • I use this awesome thing called a belly bean.. I can roll from side to side with it, without having to move my pillows and readjust, it instantly supports my back and belly! And on extra rough days, I have a body pillow between my legs.
  • I swear by my snoogle! It's amazing :x
  • Snooze for sure!! Love love love it:)
  • To avoid cramping the hubs in the sack (we have a queen) I got one of those temperpedic neck pillows and am using a pillow between my legs. So far so good! I was having the worst neck pain. FYI if you get your pillow at Bed bath n beyond and don't like it, they truly have a no hassle return policy :)
  • Snoogle with my regular pillow to support my waist
  • I have the Snoogle but I still have to use a couple regular pillows for added support.  I wish the center of it was larger for my chest and stomach! My husband got me the Snoogle because I would have all 4 pillows by the time he made it to bed.  Whoops :D
  • I definitely suggest looking on varagesale, local yard sale groups on Facebook if you have them or craigslist! I got mine for $20. I just couldn't bring myself to pay $60+ for a pillow I will use for a few months. I have the boppy full body pillow, not the new one with velcro. It's been discontinued but it is still available on Amazon. I love it! And it doesn't take up too much of our bed like some of the body pillows I looked at.
  • I've been hinting at a pregnancy pillow from bump nest. It is pretty pricey and I didn't want to pay for one originally but I just can't sleep! Hopefully my husband is smelling what I'm stepping in. Lol
  • Just using a snuggles body pillow for now. The one that kind of looks like a C. It works fine but still not doing it properly. But for me to get enough sleep I need the dog off the bed and the DH to stop snoring.

  • I always sleep with lots of pillows, and my hubby teased me about "nesting" even before we got pregnant! Now I have 2 Moshi pillows (remember those) to support the boobies (tmi?) and back (one on each side of me), and a body pillow for between my legs and against my stomach.
  • yep definitely have the body pillow. and something needs to be against my belly even if its not supporting i just need something touching it even if its DH back.
  • I found a half priced boppy at BRU. I should've read the reviews first! DO NOT buy this pillow. It is not as fluffy as I'd like it to be and has velcro attachments that irk in the middle of the night. I'm guessing this is why it was half off lol. Save your money ladies.
  • The only way I can sleep through the night without waking up a bunch of times (with the exception of having to pee) is by using my snoogle. I bought the full and the half the full I use when DH isn't home and I have enough room in the bed and the half when I have to share the bed with him- though that one is starting to be a lot less effective. My regular body pillow probably could have done the trick if I wasn't having such bad neck pain, because the snoogle supports my neck perfectly and helps keep everything aligned properly.

OMG I had no idea they sold this! I've tried a few different pillows but nothing felt comfortable. I described to DH the type of pillow I needed and this is it!

(Edited: Oops I was referring to the pregnancy wedge mentioned above)
  • I have the snooker & another maternity pillow - I forget who it's by, if you search J shaped maternity pillow it will pop up! It was a little less expensive than the snookgle & I actually prefer it! Maternity pillows are heavenly, I recommended one even over a regular body pillow!!
  • I have a snoogle. I do like it but some nights even that can't keep me comfortable. But its definitely better than not having anything.
  • Right now I'm still sleeping like I norm do . A contoured pillow with neck roll and pillow under my arm. I bought then nest pillow mothersday weekend (was on sale) just so I had when I need it. Haven't used yet
  • For women with the snoogle, is it better for belly support? I'm already having pains if I'm not propping my stomach on the body pillow to sleep but some nights, it doesn't seem like enough support.

I haven't had to try to prop my stomach yet. For me, it's most helpful when I wrap it behind me so I can roll back a little bit but not completely onto my back. If I do wrap the snoogle in front, I usually put my belly in the nook that is created when I wrap my arm/upper body on the pillow (between the pillow and the mattress, so I'm not crushing my stomach). I'll update when I get to a point where I'm needing to prop my belly up. Sorry I can't help with that yet!
  • No worries @kyleneum13, I think I'm having a harder time because I have the 2 of them dancing on my organs like they are trampolines.

  • I just bought a bump nest from amazon. I was waking up all night from either rolling onto my stomach (ouch!) or rolling on to my back, which would make me wake up in a panic because I know I'm not supposed to sleep on my back. I know I need something with back and front support, and layering the pillows just wasn't working for me (or the husband or the dog). I went with the bump nest over the snuggle after reading  few reviews online. My friend also had the bump nest and I remember trying it a few years ago; it was amazing. It should arrive on Friday, and I can't wait!

  • I've been using a standard body pillow from bed bath & beyond since about week 10. My hips were in so much pain before I started using it. I was fine for the remaining of my first and beginning second trimester but it seems the pain is back again. If I don't put the body pillow between my legs i literally cannot walk the next morning. Ouch! :-<
