Delayed AF after hysteroscopy/laparoscopy?

I had a hysteroscopy (to correct the shape of my uterus) and a laparoscopy (to remove a large amount of endometriosis) exactly two weeks ago. This was CD15 for me. I usually have 25-26 days cycles. I've only ever made it to 28 days on medicated cycles. I had quite a bit of bleeding from the hysteroscopy (more than any period I've had for as long as I can remember). I'm now on CD29, and no signs of AF, which I'm anxiously waiting for so we can start our first IUI cycle. Anyone had a similar experience after surgery? How long did it take for AF to come back? Did it come back on its own or did you have to take progesterone (or something else)?

Note: definitely BFN (tested just to be sure, but with the amount of bleeding and all they did in there, there was no way something could have made it)

Hi I didn't have to do a hysteroscopy however I did do lap for Endo and I don't remember bleeding anymore than normal and my cycle went back to "normal". Have you talked to your doctor? Your body might just need some more time to get back on track. Good luck!

Thanks! I think it's the hysteroscopy piece that messed things up (they cut pieces of my endometrium after all...). I got in touch with them this morning and they said to come in for bloodwork. So I should have more answers by tomorrow afternoon, if AF still hasn't showed up. I've never had a cycle so long, so that's definitely worrying me. But makes sense that my body is in a little bit of shock after all they did.

I'm waiting for a call from my office too, had hysteroscopy, did bleed for a few days, I was put on estradiol for 10 days and then 7 days with progesterone (I thought) to bring on AF, it's been 2 weeks tomorrow....I had been on the pill for 2 months before the surgery so I haven't had a period in a while...and it's holding up the next step (IVF!!!) ...I'll let you know if I hear anything tomorrow! I also did a pregnancy test BFN not surprising but hey you never know:)

Good luck! Were you automatically put on estradiol, or only after AF was late? Were you regular before? I'm so annoyed at how that's delaying everything!

They put me on estradiol right after to promote healing (I had a fibroid removed that was deep in the muscle layer so they had to be more aggressive). I can be a bit irregular since I have PCOS, but not like this...frustrating (before I was sad when AF came, now I am anxiously waiting so we can move on:)).

Hope the tests they did come back well and that they have some explanation for you!

They were quite aggressive with my uterus too...had a slight t shape (like an elastic band in the muscle which they think prevented my lining from getting thick enough). So I understand my uterus for being angry, and I had heavy bleeding for 3 days followed by some more lighter bleeding for 2-3 days. I wasn't given anything after though. We'll see what happens tomorrow! Thanks for the support!

My nurse told me today she wasn't surprised following the procedure that it was taking a little while for AF, to give it another week but unfortunately means may have to postpone ivf to september-- good luck!

Thanks! Bloodwork showed everything was fine, and my progesterone was at 3.6. Not clear whether it's on it way up or down, but if nothing happens in the next week, I have to go back to follow up. Our plan was to do two IUI (late July and August) and move on to IVF after if needed. Messing up the plans a little as we'll be away for a week in early September. But I guess I have to stop making plans...so hard! Good luck to you too!
