Pets and Babies

edited July 2015 in May 2015 Moms
so I am such a sucker for little babies and pets. I have two dogs, a German shepherd and a pug. Both girls. I wasn't at all concerned about my shepherd with the baby as she is such a motherly soul - she babies anything that is smaller than her. But my pug was just a puppy (I actually bought her for myself the week I discovered I was pregnant) so I was worried about how she would be like -no need! Her and DS are best of friends, he spends hours staring at her and she spends hours staring at him. I love it and get a picture every chance I get.

What about your pet and LO stories?

@lola2bee - hope your kitty gets happy soon and stops pooping in the playroom.

@Ryder0406 - your husky is GORGEOUS (so is DD, obviously) my DH has been bugging me to consider a husky for our next dog. Big dogs and babies are just the cutest thing ever. My shepherd is a lot like her too, she is very protective over her baby, even does this thing where she will put her paw on him when he is talking too loud when DS is sleeping. It's almost as if she is saying, "shhhh I just got baby to sleep"
  • Awe thanks! He's 60lbs of fur and love. Definitely was a handful as a puppy, but super smart! This pic isn't as cute, but shows him a little better. In most tries one would be adorable and the other would be a blur haha this was the best for the moment.
  • This kind old but we have two beagles and they love our LO!! And she loves laughing and smiling at them!!
  • One of my pups watches her always. The other pup doesn't seem to notice her existence haha
  • I have a 3 year old boxer, my "first baby". I was worried she would be sad and jealous of the baby, since she would no longer be the centre of attention, but she loves her. So careful and gentle (even though she's NUTS at the dog park haha). She follows the baby which I find adorable... And enjoys the bed time stories too haha.

I should add that I love seeing all the pictures! Pets (at least my dog) is part of our family, and is just as involved and loved! I remember seeing a previous post on the bump about how owners felt differently about their pets once the baby came home, almost broke my heart. I still love my dog :)
  • Baby has to share his stuff with the dog lol
  • I feel like all the dogs on here are a lot more affectionate than cats.

@lola2bee - my cat hasn't pooped out of her litter box (shockingly) but she does keep throwing up. We've had her 3 years and she's only thrown up/coughed up a hairball twice. That is until we brought home DS. For the first few weeks she was throwing up regularly. She won't go near him. If she gets too close by accident she will back away slowly or turn and bolt from the room.

Last week DS was playing on his mat so I brought our cat over to hold her near him. She wiggled out of arms, walked 3 feet away and proceeded to vomit. Clearly she is NOT impressed...
  • My cat is pretty ambivalent to LO now. She was scared of him at first and still is when he starts crying. There have been a few occasions where she'll chill on the couch next to us but if she realized his leg is touching her, she's gone, lol. She's not really affectionate with strangers so hopefully she'll warm up to him once she figures out he's not going anywhere!
  • Mila, our 3 year old Lab/Golden mix adores baby Nolan. She's typically a very hyper (but super well trained) pup, but around him she's do gentle. She always comes to check on him and gives him little kisses before carrying on with what she was doing. (Pic is a couple months old)
  • Rambo, baby boy protector. He tries to give the baby kisses all the time and is never far from his side.
  • My cat is super affectionate but his idea of cuddling is to sit on top of the baby and he weighs 20 lbs! (He's healthy just a big breed). I feel bad because we keep shooing him away to the point where he's really stressed out (he started getting feline acne from the stress. I didn't even know that was a thing!) I can't wait for her to get a little bigger so I don't have to worry about him smothering her.
  • Another pic with my other cat
  • We have two mastiffs and they just ADORE our little girl. It melts me to see how much they love her.
  • @kaylynrosalie that first picture just might be the cutest thing I've ever seen!!
  • My maltese/shih tzu mix loves following baby around, if I go to feed her at night in her room I leave the door cracked and the dog always pushes her way in. She also won't go downstairs if the baby is still upstairs, like hello you forgot something. Also if the baby is crying she will come look for me.
  • Too cute not to add this pic I just took

Finally got a picture of the two of them together.  Please note the "What fresh hell is this?" expression on my cat's face.  He. can't. even.

Too cute!! My LO wore this same outfit today haha she is almost 3 months and is wearing the 6 month size
  • Our lab is only 1 so he's still a big baby himself. He acted out a little when baby came along but he's getting used to him now and wants to be closer to him than we let him all the time.
  • Emmett & Louie at 2 weeks & Emmett and Louie at 2 months
    :))
  • My cat Simone frequently sits with me and DD while we nurse. Perfect time to snuggle and share the Boppy. Kitty had a little readjustment in the first few weeks (going outside her litter box), but all seems to be well now at 10 weeks.
  • Our kitty likes DS's stuff - particularly his bumbo seat. For the most part she's indifferent to him, but if he's in his rock 'n play she has to check on him. Picture's not great (and from a few weeks ago...), but you get the idea.
  • DH sent me this gem while I was out grocery shopping. Caleb loves using his big shepherd as a fuzzy pillow and she just loves giving him kisses.
  • Manny lays on all Olivia's blankets and gives her kisses. He also feels the need to camp on my lap whenever I sit down with her. Lol
