Shortness of breath after quitting smoking

Obviously I've quit smoking because of the pregnancy, off them 11 days now. But I'm finding I've very short of breath the last couple of days! Is this normal?

Re: Shortness of breath after quitting smoking

  • Yes, for a while until your lungs clear up. You well probably also cough really hard and cough up some nasty looking stuff.

  • I'm sure your lungs won't heal overnight, so it's probably normal.

I quit smoking as well as soon as I found out I am pregnant. Been 2 weeks now and I can honestly say, yes, shortness of breath is normal. Congrats to you hullabaloo, there are alot of pregnant women that continue smoking and you should be proud

That's okay @red3ye , I did quit smoking when I found out I was pregnant! I quit when we were trying and then we gave up and I started up again, then one month of let's give it one more try and boom! I got knocked up right away! I also quit right away. Congrats to you too! It's hard, but totally worth it.

  • Completely normal. I quit smoking YEARS ago (not because of pregnancy, just wanted to quit), and it took a while for my lungs to get back to feeling normal.

Shortness of breath is also a first trimester symptom. So totally normal. I quit smoking back when I got pregnant with my first. I gotta say it was pretty easy with the morning sickness because the thought of a cig made me nauseous. But somewhere in the second tri I started getting cravings super bad. I never gave into those cravings though. Hope this doesn't happen to you! I haven't gone back to smoking since. Good luck to you!
