Eating healthy

I haven't had any bouts of MS yet at 5 weeks. I'm guessing I'll have to deal with it at some point soon, but until then I find myself really having to change my mindset about what I eat daily. Up until I got my BFP I was on weight watchers. I'm a lifetime member and have been following the plan for a good 5 years now. I have to say, it has been SO difficult to let go of the points structure from a mental standpoint. After following a certain routine for years, its definitely been a struggle for me to adjust. I would consider myself to be fairly healthy (trying to eat organic, whole grains, etc) and I really want to focus on being healthy for my baby, but also while maintaining a healthy weight for my body.

I *know* I'm overanalyzing and overthinking this far too much, but because I'm so type-A I absolutely respond to guidelines and restrictions (and enjoy them haha). Is anyone else going through the same struggle? How do you maintain a healthy balance? ...or does the cheese stand alone?

Re: Eating healthy

  • As long as what you are eating is healthy and not a lot of pre-packaged processed foods and you're on a maintenance plan (as opposed to dropping weight every week) it's fine to stay on your 'plan' during the first trimester.  But I do agree that once your morning sickness hits it will be very hard to stick to what you were doing, and that's okay too!  'Normal' weight gain in the first trimester is anywhere from losing weight to 5lbs (or more), so this isn't really a time where you have to focus on what you're gaining for the babys sake.

Thats so reassuring to hear. I keep worrying about not gaining enough for the baby and then playing tug of war with myself haha. I'm definitely on maintenance mode now. Who knows where I'll be in a few weeks though with MS, probably shoving saltines in my mouth with noo regard to all of this lol! Thank you so much!!

I'm kinda in the same boat. I feel so much better eating low carb (by low carb I mean 100g of carbs a day that includes veggies and fruits) especially now since my digestive system has slowed down. My friends keep telling me when the MS comes I won't care and will eat whatever can stay down

  • Exactly what PP said!

I was doing Slimgenics when I got pregnant with DD and at that point I had lost about 70lbs. So I know what you're saying, it's hard to have a strict plan like that and just stop. It becomes a part of your life and daily routine. I was losing so fast that I had to just stop the program all together but I continued to try to eat as healthy as I could. Unfortunately, I had terrible MS the whole pregnancy and I ended up eating whatever I could keep down which was usually carbs :( But that's pregnancy, you just have to get through it sometimes!

It's good to eat healthy but try not to stress too much. Do what you can!
  • Thanks so much ladies. You guys really made me feel better!! <3
