Solopreneurs of Mompreneurs: What has been your main struggle running your business?

We all have our homes to run, but many of us have our own home-businesses and start-ups too. What has been the main struggle? in what area does creep up over and over again?

Re: Solopreneurs of Mompreneurs: What has been your main struggle running your business?

  • For me it's mostly customer acquisition or client acquisition.  Most of my clients come from word of mouth referals but I want to be able to establish myself online and have a great internet presence without paying a lot of money for it.

My main struggle is that my business is just me. When a kid gets sick there is no boss to call and no coworkers to pick up my slack. I am dealing directly with my clients and having to tell them I can't finish by the deadline or trying to decide if I should still take a call with a kid that might start whining int he background. That and managing my workload. I want clients, but not too many, but not too few. If I have too few then daycare costs start to eat away my earnings, if I have too many I have no help serving them and risk losing clients. It's a juggling act for sure!
  • Clients and schedules. I do need more clients but getting time on my online blog etc is laughable and then there is the headache of insurance billing and fees for services to hire for credentials vs rates and so on. And since I go to clients it can be tricky to juggle schedules.
