Allergies and Heartburn Advice.

Is anyone else in allergy and heartburn hell? I'm 32 weeks FTM. I'm not sure what changed but over the last few days my allergies are on steroids. My ears, eyes, throat, and skin itch like crazy. Benadryl barely takes the edge off. I've also tried Claritin.

Then there is the horrible heartburn. I feel like a dragon ready to spit fire. I've tried some natural remedies with little help. Idk if I can handle 8 weeks of this!

Sigh

Re: Allergies and Heartburn Advice.

  • I suffer allergies and Claritin does nothing so I just suffer through it. Heartburn....holy hell! I eat tums like they're candy. Water gives me heartburn and so does breathing. I'm actually going to speak to my doc at my next appt. I'll let you know what he says. I try to sleep elevated without sleeping upright. Sometimes it helps sometimes not so much. Good luck.

  • I've had acid reflux for the past 3 or so weeks. My doctor said it was ok to take Zantac, so I've been taking Zantac 75 once a day around lunchtime or in the afternoon when it starts coming on, sometimes twice if it's really bad at night. I know there are a few other antacids that are also ok to take, but check with your doctor on what they'd recommend. I tried to tough it out for a few weeks but it just got too miserable, and since Zantac won't do any harm to the baby, figured I better make myself comfortable as it doesn't seem to be going anywhere! I also avoid tomatoes and tomato-based products which seem to make it much worse for me (which is a bummer because I love tomatoes and tomato-based pasta sauce!). Good luck!
  • Once I was taking the maximum 6 Tums daily for my heartburn, my doctor recommended Prilosec. It has been a life changer! Zero symptoms.

  • I'm definitely going to call tomorrow and find out what I can take fit heartburn. It doesn't matter what I eat, or when I eat, I spend all day and all night with intense heartburn. I've been avoiding acidic foods and drinking tons of water and still get the worst heartburn ever.
It could be 10 hours since I ate and I'll still get heartburn as soon as I lay down.

For heart burn i swear by a teaspoon of bi carb soda in a glass of water. It washes it away right away
  • @Alsone never heard of that but I will try it today! Thank you.

NEXIUM!!!! Seriously the most amazing thing on the planet. I had majorly bad heartburn and nexium completely stops it. I was alternating between Zantac and Prilosec for a few months and still had to supplement with tums during the night. With nexium I don't have to take tums at all. It's like a blessing for real. I was in such bad pain before. Hope it can be your miracle too. :-bd

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately I'm allergic to Nexuim and I've never been able to take Tums or Milk of Magnesia. They make me severely ill and I'll vomit uncontrollably. I've been trying bicarb soda with lemon and it has helped a lot!
