Possible Chemical Pregnancy at 4w3d

Hi Ladies,

I've lost all hope! :(

I got a BFP at 12 DPO and have taken a test everyday since with BFP - if got slightly darker but not darker than control line. This is with FRER, all digitals were negative.

Yesterday at 19 DPO I started spotting dark brown - mostly when I wipe but a little bit on underwear. My line also was back to original faintness but it was my 3rd morning pee so i told myself to hold out for the following morning.

This morning my test was stark white or yellow (I only was able to pee for 4 second and urine was dark yellow - don't know if that affects test, I thought it would help since it was probably more concentrated.)

I'm feeling like this is it, I've lost it (chemical) and since I've been anxious the whole time I'm almost prepared for this feeling, but I still want to be wrong!!!

Anyone else ever have a BFN this late in the game after BFPs to still have a healthy baby?

  • Were you charting to confirm your O date? If your lines aren't getting darker as the days go on to the point of matching the control line I would say this isn't your month, so sorry :(

With my first LO, I took a pregnancy test on a Monday and got a faint positive.  By that Friday, I was still very nervous, so I took another test, and it was negative.  I was so upset because I thought we were out.  That Monday I went to see my doctor, and we saw a sac with the little 'diamond ring' inside.  We did the 48 hour blood draw, and my levels were rising like they should.  I asked my doctor why I would have gotten a negative test, and he suggested the Hook Effect, where your levels of hormones can rise to such a level that they no longer register on the test.

I share this only because it answers your question.  I would suggest scheduling an appointment with your doctor, or at least putting a call in to ask questions.  I don't know the science behind the lines or the strength or darkness of the lines on a test or what it represents, but my tests have never shown anything more than a faint line.
  • I agree with PP and make an appt with your provider. I've never had a dark line especially one that was darker than the control (that is for opks not hpts). Remember a very faint line is still a line.

  • I would make a doctors appointment since that is the only way to know for sure what is happening.

I never had a dark line either. Faint line first, then a bit darker two days later. That and not getting my period were all the confirmation I needed. I'd wait a few more days to see if your period comes, and if it doesn't test again. It can take a week or more past your missed period for a test to be obviously positive.
