Trying to Get Pregnant

Two "normal" cycles after getting off the pill and now, no ovulation

Hi Ladies!

I am wondering if anyone has had this issue.  I got off BCP on late April and have been charting and using the Fertility Awareness Method to track CM, ovulation, etc.

My first two cycles were pretty normal considering that I had just gotten off the pill.  On the first one, I ovulated on day 30 and got my period on day 36.  On the second one, I ovulated on CD 23 and got my period on day 33.  Both cycles had short luteal phases, but I think that's normal in the beginning.  I was really excited and though I was on track to have a regular cycle soon.  However, the current cycle (3rd cycle) has been less than ideal.  I decided to get OPKs to start getting used to them, since my DH and I want to start trying in October.  It is now CD 26 and still no LH surge and, of course, no temperature shift.  I know it might be too early to tell if there is a problem, but I am getting worried...

I would love to know from people with a similar experience. Thank you!!!

  • Loading the player...
  • It's perfectly normal for your O date to change a lot after BC. Keep tracking and if you go 60 days without AF then see your dr. I agree with PP - can we see your chart?

  • After coming off the pill I had NO ovulation or AF symptoms for five cycles. After some extensive bloodwork and ultrasounds my doctor ruled out PCOS and other abnormalities and just decided my body needs some extra time getting back on track and prescribed me metformin to help it along. Still nothing but it is a big relief to know there isn't anything seriously wrong. If it's been more than two cycles, see your doctor. It could be something, could be hormonal imbalances working themselves out after the pill; but it will put your mind at ease to know.
  • I wouldn't be too worried if you're on CD26 and your first O after BCP was on CD30. It's normal for things to be wonky for a few months coming off of birth control. Not to mention, some people just have longer cycles and shorter LPs. It happens. I wouldn't be too worried just yet. Would love to see your charts, though!

  • I wouldn't be worried at all. You just haven't Oed yet this cycle, and I wouldn't be surprised if you see a temp spike soon.

You might want to consider switching to Fertility Friend. Most of us use that one and are accustomed to looking at FF charts. The others just seem overly complicated and difficult to read (probably because I'm not used to them!)

  • Ill reiterate what pp have said. It can take 6-12months for your body to regulate after hormonal bcp. Keep charting and if you get to 60 days call your doc.
  • And let's be extra clear.  When everyone says to call your doc, that means to get on something to start your period (usually Provera).  This does not mean to call you OB and get Clomid or other fertility meds.  Just something to induce a period, not induce ovulation.
  • I had the same thing happen to me when I came off BC. I was thankful I had been charting and knew why I was so "late". My cycles were still long and irregular for about 6 months until I got pregnant.
  • Oh! I'm in the same boat as you!! Got off OCP in April after being on it for 10 plus years. Had some normal-ish 29 day cycles and now... On CD36! With no signs pointing to ovulation or AF.
Crazy what those hormones can do, even months later!
I don't think there is much to worry about at this point. Our bodies just need time to work on their own again and get everything leveled out. I'm trying to stay calm too, but that's easier said than done!
    Best of luck!!

  • I have been off the pill a couple months now. My first and third cycles were normal but my second I did not ovulate and got AF 2 weeks later. It can take a while for your body to get used to not being on the pill.

  • When I stopped taking the pill I didn't ovulate the first cycle until cd60!! Than I had two rather short cycles compared to that (36 days and 33 days) and then my fourth cycle I didn't ovulate until cd80! It was a rough cycle! Everyone's body reacts differently! I just trusted my temperatures and other fertility signs! Best of luck!
